This was my favourite pub in Kingston and I was really sad to see it close down. I was so excited to see it open yesterday and rushed in! The pub did not have many products to choose from and I was happy to accept that they recently opened and they are still preparing. I ordered two mojitos and I was told they have a "speckled" mojito. I understood that this is how they call their signature mojito as there is no such thing in the market. After paying £20 (!!) for the two mojitos, I go out in the garden exited to enjoy my drink...
I am honestly the last person to make a fuzz about a drink not perfectly made, but this thing was honestly horrific: it tasted like gin with water! No big issue, I accepted that the place just opened and they are still learning....so took the two drinks and I politely said that this does not resemble a mojito and before I ask to replace them for a couple of beers, he abruptly said this is the speckled mojito I ordered and there is nothing he can do about it. When I said that this tastes horribly, he shown me the catalogue with stating the ingredients and insisted that the drink had them all in, therefore I got what I ordered! Imagine you get a badly cooked food and the waiter tells you it has all the ingredients stated in the menu and you should be happy! I was speechless and just left without causing any trouble (which I honestly feel quite pathetic about). I am so sorry that the pub I love so much, I will now have to avoid at all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent in to do some work on my laptop, was served a decent pint by the bartender and began to work, about 20 minutes later a manager told me I had to leave or sit outside as "they do not allow technology in the bar". A little confused I put my laptop away and looked at my pint glass, "Samuel Smith" written across the glass. I then quickly finished my pint and left after realising I was in an establishment of a greedy, dated and corrupt pub chain owner "Humphrey Smith" (google his name and you can find a number of questionable practices by himself). I understand laptops are banned in Sam Smith pubs as in theory they want customers to talk to each other but in circumstances where customer wish to have a drink and do work I feel this rule is flawed and should be revised upon. A real shame as the bartender who served me had great customer service skills. I feel this review is more for the chain as a whole and not this individual pub. I want to emphasises I do not blame the staff in this situation at all as they were just following the (questionable) rules put in place by the chain. TLDR: Great service by the bartender and decent pint, flawed policies put in place which hinders customers experience and has no real benefit (in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hadn't been there for a few years, but went on a Tuesday evening with a friend. Got there about 6.30, and it was quite quiet, however, within about 20 minutes a group of about 4 men and a woman arrived with two dogs. They seemed to be locals as they knew the barmaid. The dogs then began to bark loudly and continuously, and the group were shouting and making enough noise to give the impression that the place was completely full. The barmaid did nothing to stop the barking or shouting, there were a few other people in for a 'quiet' drink, but it was difficult to hear yourself speak. One of the group, a bald bloke with no teeth, glared at us occasionally, as if to challenge us to say anything. Apart from this the place was dirty, the barmaid wasn't busy and just sat in a corner on her mobile. They don't serve food after 7pm - odd for a place calling itself a 'gastropub'. Needless to say we won't be going there again. As its on the river the place probably relies on the weekend evening trade of students; but being run the way it currently is - seemingly for the the benefit of a few yob like locals - I can't imagine it will last...
