As with most pubs this place has been few a few iterations (itās clearly ancient, so no surprise). In my time Itās been OK, it was a dump, it was OK again, now itās a classy foodie pub. Owned by Mosaic, so hardly independent, but a small chain by todays standards.
The garden is one of the larger ones in the area, on a fairly busy road, but certainly no motorway ā if you happen to be here on a day when the Cricket club are playing in the field opposite it really does add to the feeling of being in a village, despite being in Zone 5.
Staff are great ā polite, patient and knowledgeable. If you order too much or too little they will politely but not forcefully mention, they also have that wonderful ability to check if you need anything occasionally just when you actually do.
Food is great ā Sunday roast is difficult to beat but they put on a decent showing on other days. The open kitchen is an asset rather than a liability as you can see the chefs giving the food enough respect that you do want to eat it.
All good so far.
The gents toilet stinks. Itās not just slightly unpleasant ā it really stinks of the sewers. This has not changed in the last 3 years so it appears it is something they have just given up on. There is almost no water pressure in the taps so washing your hands is a challenge and the driers are frequently out of order.
Where do the staff wash...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had the most wonderful evening dining at this pub. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality. The setting strikes the perfect balance between traditional pub charm and a relaxed, modern feel, making it ideal for both a casual drink or a proper meal.
The food was outstanding. Every dish we tried was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Portions were generous without sacrificing quality, and itās obvious the kitchen takes real pride in what they serve. The menu had a great variety, from hearty classics to more refined options, so thereās truly something for everyone.
What made the experience even better was the service. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely seemed to enjoy making guests feel comfortable. Itās rare to find that combination of excellent food and such thoughtful service in one place.
The atmosphere was lively yet cosy, and the garden area was a real highlightāa lovely space to enjoy a drink before or after dinner. Whether youāre looking for a relaxed lunch, a special dinner, or just a pint in a friendly setting, this pub really does tick all the boxes.
We left feeling completely satisfied and are already planning our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely pub to have an outdoor drink in the sun however I was a little disappointed with the food and service.
I visited with my family for an early evening dinner, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing and the staff were friendly - however we had to request a high chair 3 times, it seemed that the waitress kept forgetting despite it not being overly busy. The table we were sat on didn't feel very clean either and quite sticky so it was obviously not cleaned between bookings - which isn't great for obvious reasons.
The meal was ok, honestly I expected a step up in quality and portion size for a £13.50 pub fish and chips. The Mac & Cheese didn't have great depth in flavour and was overpowered with mustard. Again, it wasn't terrible but I didn't try anything that made us feel "this is a fantastic dish/meal". Just "OK" for the prices in my opinion. I also had an extra pint added to my bill - which was rectified once pointed out.
My review rating is mainly reflective of my dining experience however I will definitely return for drinks but give the food a...
