Overall: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜†ā˜† Food: Pub Food Overall a very respectable three stars. Why only three stars? The main dining room was quite cold. Then the potential issue over switching out fries and the bread which meant a drop which I believe is totally fair in the circumstances. The saving grace being the ladies service were both very, very nice. I think one of them had to be the manager. What I liked: • Very good service • Food served reasonably quickly • No issues with sampling any of the wines before buying • Fish and chips were good. Probably would have preferred more than a thimble sized portion of the mushy peas though and a few more fries. What I didn't like: • Being told the chef would need to be 'consulted' to see if it was ok to switch out chunky chips for fries on the fish and chips. • The 'sourdough' and 'whipped butter' leaves a lot to be desired. (See the photos) Essentially a couple of slices of normal bread and some butter in a 2oz sauce pot for Ā£5! Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? YES Price point: $$

If you’re willing to wait in the cold and be ignored by waiters, go here! First of all, I’m giving two stars as the food was delicious. However when you rate a restaurant, you don’t only take in account the food but also the experience. When we first arrived, they gave us a table that was too small for the six of us. We changed table but it was quite filthy. We had to ask for them to clean it. I also don’t understand why there are no heaters. We were extremely cold. I noticed that those who didn’t a book a table had heaters near their tables. Lastly, the service was awful. We arrived at 7pm and it was only until 8:30pm that our main meal was served. When we wanted a dessert after having waited hours for the meal to arrive, they said the kitchen was closed. I found it slightly rude that they did not warn us that the kitchen would close as we wanted to celebrate someone’s birthday. What a way to ruin someone’s birthday! Furthermore, they took ages to bring our bill. We had to wait 20 minutes...

We have been to this place a few times for drinks but never for food. We decided to go for Sunday roast. My wife had the chicken and I went for the pork belly. The plates are big with lots of veg and a massive Yorkshire pudding. The pork belly wasn't a cut of pork but a made up roll coverd in bread crumbs and only one slice. It was nice but a bit excessive for £16.50. The chicken was the quarter breast section. It was a bit on the dry side. Again a bit excessive at £16. It has a big beer garden which is really nice. ( weather permitting). In general I would go back again for food but I don't think I will be getting the roasts.

As with most pubs this place has been few a few iterations (it’s clearly ancient, so no surprise). In my time It’s been OK, it was a dump, it was OK again, now it’s a classy foodie pub. Owned by Mosaic, so hardly independent, but a small chain by todays standards.

The garden is one of the larger ones in the area, on a fairly busy road, but certainly no motorway – if you happen to be here on a day when the Cricket club are playing in the field opposite it really does add to the feeling of being in a village, despite being in Zone 5.

Staff are great – polite, patient and knowledgeable. If you order too much or too little they will politely but not forcefully mention, they also have that wonderful ability to check if you need anything occasionally just when you actually do.

Food is great – Sunday roast is difficult to beat but they put on a decent showing on other days. The open kitchen is an asset rather than a liability as you can see the chefs giving the food enough respect that you do want to eat it.

All good so far.

The gents toilet stinks. It’s not just slightly unpleasant – it really stinks of the sewers. This has not changed in the last 3 years so it appears it is something they have just given up on. There is almost no water pressure in the taps so washing your hands is a challenge and the driers are frequently out of order.

Where do the staff wash...

We had the most wonderful evening dining at this pub. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality. The setting strikes the perfect balance between traditional pub charm and a relaxed, modern feel, making it ideal for both a casual drink or a proper meal.

The food was outstanding. Every dish we tried was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Portions were generous without sacrificing quality, and it’s obvious the kitchen takes real pride in what they serve. The menu had a great variety, from hearty classics to more refined options, so there’s truly something for everyone.

What made the experience even better was the service. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely seemed to enjoy making guests feel comfortable. It’s rare to find that combination of excellent food and such thoughtful service in one place.

The atmosphere was lively yet cosy, and the garden area was a real highlight—a lovely space to enjoy a drink before or after dinner. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed lunch, a special dinner, or just a pint in a friendly setting, this pub really does tick all the boxes.

We left feeling completely satisfied and are already planning our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for...

Lovely pub to have an outdoor drink in the sun however I was a little disappointed with the food and service.

I visited with my family for an early evening dinner, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing and the staff were friendly - however we had to request a high chair 3 times, it seemed that the waitress kept forgetting despite it not being overly busy. The table we were sat on didn't feel very clean either and quite sticky so it was obviously not cleaned between bookings - which isn't great for obvious reasons.

The meal was ok, honestly I expected a step up in quality and portion size for a £13.50 pub fish and chips. The Mac & Cheese didn't have great depth in flavour and was overpowered with mustard. Again, it wasn't terrible but I didn't try anything that made us feel "this is a fantastic dish/meal". Just "OK" for the prices in my opinion. I also had an extra pint added to my bill - which was rectified once pointed out.

My review rating is mainly reflective of my dining experience however I will definitely return for drinks but give the food a...
