Disappointing and Unacceptable Experience at Eva Hart Wetherspoon
I’ve been a loyal Wetherspoon customer for as long as I can remember, always appreciating the consistent service and atmosphere. However, my recent experience at the Eva Hart Wetherspoon was beyond disappointing, and the only reason I’m leaving this bad review is because of the appalling service my friends and I received from the staff. This particular branch is by far the worst I’ve ever encountered, and the experience left us feeling disrespected and mistreated.
My friends and I visited the pub for dinner, with the hope of having a relaxed evening, but what unfolded was completely awful. One of our friends looked younger than 25, and in accordance with the Challenge 25 policy, the staff asked for his ID. We fully understood the policy, despite the fact that he had only ordered a soft drink. He’s 22 years old, but as requested, he left the pub without any argument.
Unfortunately, this is where the problems began. After our friend left, one of the staff members—a lady who was serving us—began behaving extremely rudely. Despite the fact that the person in question had already left, she kept insisting that the rest of us should also leave the pub, and did so in an unprofessional and condescending manner. She asked us to leave three separate times, while we were still in the middle of our meal. It felt like she was constantly breathing down our necks, forcing us to rush through our food and drinks. In the end, we had to finish our food within 15 minutes, barely even touching our drinks.
When we raised the issue with the manager, we were hoping for a more understanding and professional response. Unfortunately, the manager’s attitude was even more shocking. Instead of listening to our concerns or offering any sort of apology, she was equally rude and dismissive. I even explained to her that I work in a pub myself, so I understand the rules and protocols, but this was not about enforcing policy—it was about how they treated us. She seemed completely uninterested in our complaint and offered no resolution whatsoever.
What made the entire situation worse was the blatant double standard we witnessed. We couldn’t help but notice that other patrons, who also appeared to be under 25, were still sitting comfortably, drinking and smoking without being bothered at all. It was clear to us that we were being singled out, and frankly, we felt it was due to racism. This is not the kind of experience anyone should have, especially in an establishment that we’re paying to enjoy.
In all my years of going to Wetherspoon pubs, I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. It was an utterly disappointing and upsetting experience, and they completely ruined our night. I expect much better from Wetherspoon, and this branch in particular has left a very sour taste in my mouth. I hope the management at Eva Hart takes these complaints seriously and works to improve their staff’s attitude and service. No one should have to experience what we did.
Would not recommend this pub to anyone looking for a...
Read moreOn 02/03/2025 at 6:30 PM, I visited The Eva Hart - JD Wetherspoon, located at 1128 High Rd, Romford RM6 4AH. I ordered two portions of chicken wings, two portions of fries, and two bottles of water for my kids.
When the food arrived, I noticed that one portion of fries was missing. I immediately informed the waitress, and she assured me that it was on the way. Meanwhile, I realized that the water bottles were extremely cold, which was an issue since my kids were already suffering from cold and throat pain. I requested a non-chilled bottle of water, but the waitress said that all their water bottles are stored cold and that they did not have any available at room temperature. I asked if they could provide one before it was placed in the fridge, but they hesitated and flatly refused. This response was quite shocking, as it seemed like a simple and reasonable request.
Despite waiting patiently for my missing fries, 30 minutes passed with no update. I went to the counter to inquire again, and they assured me it would arrive in 10 minutes. However, after another 15 minutes, instead of bringing the fries, three staff members approached my table and asked what the issue was. I explained the situation, and they claimed that they had already served two portions of fries on the same plate.
This was completely unacceptable, as the portion was noticeably smaller than what should have been two servings. When I pointed this out, they simply refused to do anything about it. The staff, including the manager, Keli, and a woman in a white shirt, were extremely rude and dismissive.
Overall, this was a terrible experience. The poor service, lack of basic customer care, and unprofessional behaviour from the staff made it even worse. I would not recommend this...
Read more12/07/25 I am here to edit my review of the place, as we had a bad experience here. My wife and I used to visit the place regularly, for small dinner dates. We liked the pub's ambience and the food. We had been busy for the past couple of months and hadn't been to the place in a while. So when we went there last Saturday, to our surprise we were denied entry by the security at the door, who demanded that we show our ID to gain access. This was the first time we were asked so at this pub. Unfortunately neither of us weren't carrying it, and while we told that we can show a photo of it, they didn't accept it. We were not given an explanation as to why this was needed. We asked to speak to someone else, like a manager, and the security went inside, and we saw him speaking to a staff. All we could see was that the staff shaking their head, and then we were told by the security that it was not possible to grant us entry.
Miffed by this, our moods were down and we went back to take our IDs. However given the experience that we just had, we weren't of a mind to go back and we went to the Romford Wetherspoon's pub instead. And we were never asked for our ID over there.
I understand that pubs might need their customers to provide ID for various purposes like proving their age (though I look visibly older than 25, sporting a full beard). However not being given an explanation as to why this was required, is indignifying, especially when it was not asked of us in our previous visits and at their sister pubs as well. This pub used to be one of our favourite local spots and now we don't like coming here, owing to...
