Thai & Pie — Restaurant in London

A lovely restaurant situated on Romford road. Parking is free after 5:30pm on side roads or free after 6:30pm on main road or you can park for 1 hour free via parking app. The restaurant has a lovely modern look from the outside and very welcoming and clean. The decor, colour and furniture and design inside is very modern and has a lovely atmosphere about the place. The restaurant has a 5 star food hygiene rating. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We had book a table in advance and requesting the items we wanted in advance to speed things up as we were fasting. The staff were very accommodating and took all this into consideration. We were allowed to pray in the back as their was free space to pray for a group of 7. Dates and water were made available for us to break our fast. Starters came very quickly as well as our pre-ordered mocktails. We went for a few classic and the special mojitos. The mocktails were lovely, well flavoured and tasted lovely. Our starters were a mixed of satays, salads, fish cakes. They were a great mix of lovely starter full of flavour, the salad was lovely full of flavour and very refreshing after a day of fasting. Prawn and chicken satay were lovely full of flavour and tasty. We didn’t have to wait long for main. Main plates were changed from the starter plates. We ordered a mix of pad Thai beef noodles, prawn and chicken Panang Curry, Prawn Goong Choo Chee, Egg Fried rice and Jasmine rice. The food was lovely, great flavours, hot and tasty. We thought we had ordered too much but empty plates as a sign of compliments to the chef. Staff offered us free masala tea on the house. Overall a great evening, with great food and great company. My mother and I are extremely disappointed in the order that we received on July 24, 2023.

I chose to order from Thai N Pie due to the restaurant being rated 4.9 out of 5 stars on Google, the highest rating I’ve seen from a restaurant so far! I thought that the food would be good, I was wrong.

We ordered: 1 quantity of Fishcakes (Fried marinated fish cakes served with sweet chilli sauce).

1 quantity of Pak / Veg Drunken Noodles.

2 quantities of Double Thai N Pie Special Fish Burger (deep-fried Thai N Pie special fish fillet topped with melted cheese, served with chips and coleslaw).

Both the "fishcakes" and the "fish fillet" in the fish burger tasted like processed meat. I originally thought it was chicken, as I only eat fish and I’ve never seen fish like that before. It was the worst fish food item my mother and I had ever tasted. It was inedible, and we spat it out and put all of the fish in a container (I’ve put them both in the same container in one of the photos attached).

Oh my goodness, it was so disappointing to see that the fishcakes and fish fillet were essentially the same. Absolutely disgusting and terrible!

The Pak / Veg Drunken Noodles had massive chunks of green pepper, mushrooms, and a slice of lime. I’ve attached photos for your viewing.

Overall, my mother and I only ate the coleslaw and chips out of the £44.80 worth of "food" we spent. 0/10.

Update: On July 25, I sent feedback to Thai N Pie via their website, to this day I’ve received no reply...

While a mass of excellent reviews should give you confidence, I was apprehensive given that ‘pie’ and ‘burgers’ seemingly have zero connection with Thai food. I expected the Thai food to be passable at best so expectations were not high. To further consolidate this angst, finding that this a is Bangladeshi owned and run Thai restaurant did not make it any better. Albeit, we were told that for the Thai food on the menu, they have a dedicated Thai chef.

Anyway, the food came (tom yum, satay, panang curry, pad krapow, pad ped) and it was very good. In fact, it was better than many well known and high end Thai restaurants that I have eaten it. The service was very attentive and friendly. Nothing changes, the service is great every time. They really know how to treat their customers.

Only negative is that they are cash only which is an inconvenience but their is an ATM (no charge) right across the road.

Many places don’t live up to it on the second visit but this place is an exception, they’re excellent each and every time! Food is exceptional and the service is amazing each and every time. This is not hype, just exactly the right way to run a restaurants; great food and personal friendly service!

This is the best Thai restaurant in the area easily. We have tried others and you are always left thinking we should have stuck to this place! Looking forward to...
