Went back to the Front Room after having not been there in a while (been going sporadically since they opened years ago, but noticed a decline in quality). I can now confirm that my reasons for staying away have been met: I ordered a Eggs Royal (one of their staple meals, according to past experiences and recommendations).
The portion was ridiculous - I should have taken a picture. One toasted muffin sliced in half with a few sheets of very basic Norwegian Salmon, and some rather too acidic "home made" - they say - Hollandaise sauce.
All this for the humble price of £8.95. I'm not averse to paying London prices for brunch, dinner, breakfast. But for such prices I'd like to be served something I can't make myself on a lesser budget of £5 at home in more or less the same amount of time it took to be brought out.
My partner ordered the veggie fry up. Slightly better. But for close to £9 I would recommend trying one of the numerous greasy spoons Finsbury Park/Stroud Green has to offer, where you can be served something just as good, for almost half the price.
This is definitely not one of the hidden gems of good food and fine cuisine the area has to offer; it caters only to a select public of yummy mummy types. Or eccentrics who like to contribute to setting the price for basic food to unreasonable heights.
Not visiting again! Stay away (unless you are one...
Read moreI have been visiting the front room cafe occasionally over the years and the service and breakfasts have been great despite it being busy at weekends. My mum, boyfriend and I had a really bad experience this afternoon. After being greeted by a somewhat cheery waitress, our order was taken and then we were forgotten about it wasn't as busy as we usually find it. After enjoying our pot of tea we realised we'd been waiting more than half an hour for our food. The reason why was because our order was lost. We understand that mistakes happen, but the staff were not apologetic. After asking twice more we were about to walk out when the waiter (owners son) brought our food out. We stated that we were not happy to pay full price due to the wait and poor service which he said we would negotiate at the end. When we were about to pay the owner's son said that 'the owner was not happy because when customers are unhappy they usually walk out' - a very unprofessional attitude. The owner didn't care as he was outside on his phone and it looked like he got his son to deal with us because be couldn't be bothered to. We got a fiver knocked off the bill and we were offered free drinks after we paid...typical. It's a bit too late to offer free drinks, we will...
Read moreSince I moved to the area in June 2021 this has to be the best cafe that I've been to so far and belive me I've tried quite a few in the area. It was quite busy when I arrived but if you do not mind waiting then it's worth the wait for the food that you order. I kept it simple with a simple ham and cheese toasted sandwich and a side order of sweet potato fries and oh boy it was worth the wait. The ham and cheese had plenty of flavour and included in the sandwich was a little bit of salad as well. As for the sweet potato fries, they were melt in your mouth moments with just the right amount of salt sprinkled on them and they came with a glass pot of tasty mayo to dip the fries into and all washed down with a lovely cup of coffee. The cafe had a lovely vibe about it and you could tell that they also had a fair share of I'm guessing local returning customers who were on 1st name terms with the staff. I went there around lunchtime and was given a lunch menu of which included all kinds of savoury treats but I'm led to believe that they also have a breakfast menu as well if which includes different kinds of a full English and also a veggie full English. In general a great little find that will definitely be on my to...
