Me and my sister Abi attended the beginners Dim Sum course last night, Wednesday 31st October. I had bought the course for Abi in August as a birthday present and we were both looking forward to a fun evening chatting and cooking together.
Whilst the food was delicious at the end of the evening, I have to say that the experience with Will in preparing the food was completely unenjoyable. I completely understand that there is a lot to go through with a group of novice Dim Sum cooks, but I had expected the evening to be lighthearted and fun. The evening felt rushed and if anything took Will away from quickly completing the evening it was met with rude and patronising comments.
I personally received a couple of comments around misuse of the scales, the kneading of the dough - does it really matter? People are there to have fun and enjoy themselves whilst learning a new skill. There were two middle aged women there who were so enthusiastic and obviously wanted to understand more about what they were cooking. They asked some fair questions around how many Dim Sum the dough would make, which hand to use etc. which were both shot down with sarcastic comments like, "It doesn't matter." "Whichever hand I want."
The above meant that very few people actually asked questions and the atmosphere wasn't the friendly, fun one that was anticipated.
Will's been running the courses for 5 years and no doubt has built a successful course, however the evening left a sour taste in my mouth with regards to the London Cookery School. I don't know if we caught him on a bad day but I certainly wouldn't recommend based on the experience, particularly...
Read moreI didn't get a chance to experience this, so this review is based purely on the lack of care and customer service shown by the london cookery school and in particular Will.
I booked 2 slots on a certain date and couldn't make the class, so I went to change to a 2 slots where I was put on the waiting list and a confirmation email was sent saying I was on the wait list. I then went and double checked their booking system to make sure the date I moved from had 2 slots open up and indeed it did so my class date was moved to a wait list slot.
It then arrives close to my booking date and I got an email saying my booking is coming up, however I previously understood I was waitlisted on a future class based on the confirmation email I received and the fact that I opened up 2 slots on the booking system.
The day of the class arrives and I get an email thanking me for my attendance - I then email the school to ask whats going on and I was told I was never moved despite me checking and double checking and receiving a confirmation email saying I was on the waitlist!
Clearly there is a misunderstanding here and some empathy should be shown in the spirit of good customer service, instead I am rudely told it was my fault have to rebook and pay a rebooking fee without even any understanding or compromise.
Thanks LCS for confusing the hell out of me with your ridiculous booking system and then being rude enough to blame me for it and slam me with the rebooking costs referring to terms and conditions that no one reads. Great...
Read moreI recently had the most delightful and memorable experience at the London Cookery School, and I simply cannot praise it enough. My husband and I indulged in a private sushi class with the incredibly talented and warm-hearted chef, Will.
Will's passion for cooking was palpable, and his expertise shone through every step of the way. As a teacher, he possesses a rare combination of knowledge, patience, and a genuine desire to share his culinary wisdom. His instructions were clear, and he skillfully guided us through the intricate art of sushi making.
However, what truly sets Will apart is not just his teaching prowess, but his genuine kindness and affable nature. He took the time to get to know us, shared stories, and created an atmosphere that was both comfortable and conducive to learning.
Our three hours with Will were an absolute joy. It was as if time flew by while we laughed, learned, and savored every moment. Not only did we acquire new culinary skills, but we also left with hearts full of gratitude for the wonderful memories created.
If you're considering a cooking class in London, I wholeheartedly recommend the London Cookery School, especially with Will as your instructor. Our wedding anniversary will forever be marked by this extraordinary experience, and we can't thank Will enough for his exceptional teaching and his genuine warmth as a...
