The band SMOKEHOUSE played the GRAPES in WANDSWORTH and it was an amazing place to play. We brought friends and followers along to the pub and before long they all remarked how wonderful and friendly the local cliental are! The gig kicked off and the crowd was joined as one celebrating the music of CREAM, THE WHO, THE DOORS, RORY GALLAGHER JOHN MAYER THIN LIZZY etc.. the crowd became like a festival with everybody as one and mingling as if they knew each other for years! This was made possible by the hard work and acumen of Amy and her staff. Amy is intent on building a venue that WANDSWORTH CENTRAL sorely needs, ie a music venue to challenge the Half moon putney, and Amy has.made a really good start on this last night. I was taken back to the days when.live music was heard in Putney.Wandsworth and London as a whole, and communitys valued the culture of British Rock and Blues music which we re-exported back to the USA and produced the greatest names in music, Blues, Rock, R n B etc... I urge everybody strongly to support our culture and keep this great history alive by supporting live music, and the best place for that is now becoming THE GRAPES SW 18 1DX Thank you all , see you soon at THE...
Read moreI hadn't been here for a few years and was amazed at how big the garden had grown!
On chatting to the landlord, he told me that it was always that size, it's just that before most of it had been taken up by car parking. Making full use of this space is a much better idea, besides, who drives to a pub in Wandsworth anyway?
Traffic noise from the encircling Wandsworth One-Way system was reduced out in this garden, as it is off a small side street. There are a lot of seats and tables available, and there is a 'conservatory' area, which proved a reasonable compromise at is it was chucking it down when I visited, and I didn't want to sit in the main bar.
The Youngs Ordinary Bitter was good, and cost £4.20 a pint. They accepted cash, which was handy.
Decor and facilities all clean and good.
Oh, and they open at 11am, which...
Read moreThe best pub in Wandsworth. Small, cozy, and a nice outdoors space. Punters will actually make conversation with a stranger (as I was) here. You can't say that about many pubs (outside of the City.) It's Rugby-centric, but then so is most of Wandsworth. Prices are great for a London boozer and the staff are really friendly. Above all, this is a drinker's pub. It's not a creche. There are no slides or swings. In this part of the world, that is such a blessing. The picture is outside the front of The Grapes. (On the one-way-system). Best to stay inside or go in the very 'cool' garden located on the other side of...
