London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇Green Park 🍺 £6.15 Pravha ❤️ A bustling Mayfair pub. . The Kings Head is located on a corner plot in the heart of Mayfair and is surrounded by upscale shop’s synonymous with the area. Green Park is the nearest tube station which is a few minutes walk away. . The original pub on this site was built in 1710, the pub was rebuilt by Landlord Fredrick Shelley in 1870 and for a period of time this pub used to be called Shelley’s. The pub has two separate signs located at the front and the side with two different kings, Charles II is on one side and George II on the other. . This is a @nicholsonspubs boozer so you know you’re in for a traditional pub experience. The pub has dark wood panelling and floors throughout, these are accented by dark green walls and a deep red ceiling. The seating is a mixture of comfy buttoned leather banquettes, poser tables and traditional low level tables and chairs. At the front of the bar is a TV on mute and around the walls are historical pictures of the area. The pub is dimly lit to give the place a seductive feel. There is a dining room upstairs and a basement bar also. . The beer lineup was solid and included four real ales, I decided on a Pravha which is a good session beer. My pint was great, not sure about how it was poured but I’ll let them off. The food is hearty British fayre with an emphasis on pies. The Fish & Chips seemed popular with the punters and costs £18.50. . There was a buzzy vibe on this Saturday afternoon and the pub was busy with tourists, day trippers and weary shoppers after their retail fix. I sat on a poser table to catch a bit of Soccer Saturday and soak up the atmosphere. The staff were very attentive even though they were very busy looking after the clientele. . The @kingsheadw1 is a busy traditional pub which offers punters hearty food and a decent beer selection. I enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere here and the low-lit ambiance. This pub is definitely worth checking out. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 14/01/23

Each dish is crafted with care, reflecting both quality and finesse. One of the many thoughtful features of The King’s Head is its accessibility. We decided to give this pub a try for dinner and a pint and it was great. The bar was lively and packed, but we went upstairs to eat, which didn't have many people and was quiet and relaxing. We had the smoked salmon for appetizer ( yum ) and for dinner tried the Steak and Nicholson Ale Pie which was delicious and filling. Our server was great and she also gave us a tasting of the various drafts they had to help us decide what pints to get. All and all we thoroughly enjoyed our pub experience at Kings Head.

THIEVES OPERATE IN THIS PLACE - MANAGEMENT DON'T CARE - BEWARE

Management seem nonchalant about it, and about helping, which leads me to summarise that it happens often.

My bag was stolen, we asked the manager to review the CCTV (to ensure it was stolen) and he puffed, rolled his eyes, demanded to know how long ago (you tell me- I didn't see anyone take it) and barked at us that he cannot show us the CCTV (we didn't ask- Was just after a bit of help after a handbag was missing). After ages of waiting while he looked, he came back downstairs and confirmed that two punters bought a drink, came over to where I was sitting, took my handbag from the back of my chair and left. He said they can't do anything and I'll need to contact the police (fair enough).

I asked for his name for reference (many staff work in Central London pubs and it would be a good to be able to give a name as a point of contact) and he said he wasn't telling me his name, I can just say 'the manager'. I asked why and he said I didn't need to know his name, I had no legal basis to ask. I told him I was simply after a bit of sympathy and compassion while a thief was walking around with my handbag and everything in it, and a point of contact in case anyone needed confirmation that he had viewed the CCTV and we had spoken to him.

Had it been me, I would have told the affected party something along the lines of... "Madam my name is X and I'm very sorry this happened to you (NB: that isn't accepting liability) if I can be of any further assistance to you or the police please do not hesitate to contact me at the Kings Head and I'd be happy to assist. Despite what has happened, please have a safe journey home and all the best"... But no, I got rude indifference. Makes me wonder and allege if staff may be in on this? That or it happens so regularly it's an inconvenience, like the barrel being empty and having to change it on a busy shift.

I didn't blame him, I didn't blame the staff or the pub. These things happen in Central London and I was annoyed at myself that I had let it happen. But as I said, some sympathy from the manager, a bit of basic customer service and human compassion wouldn't have gone a miss. I was slightly in shock, and was only looking for some empathy and kindness- Surely not too much to ask? I wasn't rude, I wasn't accusatory- I didn't really know what to do first and "the manager" was being so rude for no apparent reason, when instead he could have been polite and helpful.

Maybe some signs up to remind punters that thieves operate. The way the pub is set up it is very easy to walk in one door, steal something and walk out the other door. Perhaps some vigilance from the pub to pass onto longstanding punters would be helpful. Least of all, some human compassion when someone's belongings have been stolen in the place they're...

Group booking. Prawn cocktails with as few as 4 prawns in. "Classic Roast Turkey" mains with 4 baby new potatoes that had been shown a little time in an oven and not roast at all, not a sprout in sight and 3 miniature baby carrots which were closer to raw than al denté and none of it hot. All for £28.95 a head. Service was initially good but marred later by an ill/short tempered member of staff with a unkempt looking beard and who obviously from his behaviour and body language didn't want to be there. He was unable to get even a repeat wine order right even despite being handed the empty bottle from the first order. One of our party paid the £5 supplement for T bone steak which came out off the bone ..and sent most of it back as it was unbearably tough. He didn't want to make a fuss which the rest of us respected but personally I felt it should have been returned for a refund/swap.

Not all bad though..Salmon main course was pretty good as was the baked cheese starter. Another colleague had the beef rib and that looked good, he was pleased with his choice. If it wasn't for these, and the good service from the rest of the staff it would have only got 2 stars max.

Funny things reviews...If it had been a personal booking and we hadn't of experienced the prawns/turkey/almost T bone and beardy, based on the other meals it would have most likely have got a much higher score from us.

I hope tourists from overseas don't sample the "classic" Christmas dinner and think that's what they are being served,...
