I lived in Hatch End for a few years and used to visit The Moon & Sixpence regularly and have been very happy. Decided to pop in for dinner yesterday for the first time since the Covid restrictions were lifted, and what a rollercoaster ride it was. We sat outside and the table we chose had to be cleaned as there was food from the previous customers, which I asked for 5 times (yes, I know). The first dish and food arrived before this happened. I asked (again) for the table to be cleaned - which the manager in charge surely did after shouting ‘knees off the table’ from across the yard. We then had to ask for the food to be brought back as they returned it to the kitchen whilst cleaning the table for some reason - it really seemed like a special request, and a huge logistical operation getting a table cleaned and ready for the next customer. Food was stone cold. Second dish arrives ‘Signature sirloin steak’ which I ordered as medium-rare - that’s the one in the picture. For some context, this was on a Monday, at 6:30PM and it wasn’t busy at all. In a nutshell: Rude staff, Slow service, Unorganised, Poor food.

Wetherspoons #118 visited. A medium sized branch situated in Hatch End shopping area, a short walk of 200 metres, or so from Hatch End Overground Station. A decent sized beer garden is outside the rear of the pub. This is another branch that does the highly reasonable 'Top Plates, Low Rates' deals - see image attached for deals and pricing. On this occasion I ordered an All Day Brunch and a pint of Strongbow Dark Fruits. Not bad for £6.44! The drink arrived within about a minute of ordering through the app. Food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. Food was piping hot, well cooked and presented. Chips were crunchy, not soggy like you get on some occasions. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area and don't want to break the bank for a decent meal. Note: after a substantial amount of visits I do feel that many of the smaller Spoons pubs do make more of an effort for your custom than many of the larger, more well known branches. The Moon and Sixpence in Hatch End is one of those smaller branches that makes an effort.

Okay, it's a Spoons. But it's one of the really good ones. None of the school dinners' pong that affects the worst of Tim Martin's chain. And none of the CAMRA pretentiousness that affects others. It's a genuine community pub, full inside and in the large pub garden, when I called on a pleasant Friday evening in May. And the clientele reflects the area. Lots of traditional Londoners but with tables filled with youngsters from the Indian sub-continent. Hatch End is the last stop in Zone 6 on lines to Watford, has a cliquey reputation, but The Moon may offer a glimpse of the area's future.

The manger Josie was very rude and didn’t want to serve me and my uncle at all just because two ladies were behind us and she assumed we was altogether getting drinks at the bar and we wasn’t drunk at all neither was the ladies behind

But she refused to serve me and my uncle And her language showed a side that was unprofessional

I felt so annoyed by how she treated us and made us feel in the pub

She told my uncle he must be quiet and he suffers from mental health so he tends to laugh etc . Because he’s trying to be happy it’s unacceptable behaviour regarding to mental health because we have never been to this pub before and I love to bring my uncle out and about to see good places but unfortunately this pub didn’t accept all different kinds of people seems in there eyes they accept normal people

By the actions that were shown

I explained to her and she was just rude and tried to apologise but I didn’t accept it as it wasn’t very apologetic at all she was smirking . When I told her your not sorry your just pleasing your self.

I’m sorry to you guys who have been going there for years etc but it’s a pub not a library if we have disability or because we’re a different colour tone or we have mental health issues etc. we should be accepted all together .

Pub should be a happy pub with laughter and happiness as we have had lock down and haven’t been...

Update: August 2023. Generally things have improved at this particular Wetherspoons. Been a couple of occasions and Drinks machine has been working.

Disappointing to arrive for Sunday breakfast and find yet again there is no hot drinks because the coffee machine has broken down. I really don't understand why this pub only has the one machine—further frustrated by ordering a breakfast muffin with a free hot drink and being charged extra for ordering an orange juice. What choice does the customer have?

This whole episode was compounded by wanting to complain to Wetherspoon's head office in Watford by telephone. Calling the customer service number, you get a recorded message informing you that if you have a complaint, you should use their app or email. Then the line cuts off.

Seriously disappointed by the whole visit. This is the third time in as many months I have visited with my elderly patents for breakfast to find their only hot drinks machine is either only dispensing hot water for tea and black coffee or not working at all.

I guess JD Wetherspoons don't want to invest in their pubs! By the bar you could also see some type of ceiling water leak that obviously had been going on for weeks.

We won't be returning...

I really can't believe some of the reviews I've read on this website. I've been eating at this pub for quite a few years now on a regular basis, although only at lunch time, and I've always found the food to be outstanding, tasty and well cooked and the staff to be friendly, especially when they get to know you as a regular. I've tried many of the meals and none of them have been a disappointment. Their steaks, burgers and sausages are better than any I've had in upmarket restaurants. In fact I wish I knew who supplied their sausages as they're the best I've ever tasted.

The loos (ladies) are always spotlessly clean and fresh smelling.

The pub does get busy at certain times of the day especially over the lunch period, sometimes they have parties of people who take up a lot of the tables (parties as in groups of friends/clubs), but then it's an indication of their popularity and how reasonable their prices are for the quantity of food you get. They definitely don't skimp on portions..

The staff do get busy and rush around and miss things occasionally but are always very pleasant if you ask them to clear the table or wipe them clean if they haven't had a chance to do it in...
