A real shame. Me and my partner visited The Nightingale on New Year’s Eve for a few small plates in the afternoon. The chap serving us was rather quiet and didn’t say much. We sat at a table and nobody moved the empty drinks glasses here from previous visitors. When we looked at the menu, only a select few items were available through the Young’s app rather than the paper menu we requested which was confusing. We were initially shocked by the prices of the food - we are frequent visitors to this pub and the prices have definitely increased - although we often come here for drinks rather than food. I do not mind paying a bit more if the food is of good quality.

It was not.

The portion sizes in this place are an utter joke.

We ordered the following: sausage roll (tiny - and £7). Hummus & flatbread (again tiny). Crab salad (tasted horrible and not fresh in the slightest) and the one that really took the biscuit - calamari. This was terrible. Firstly, we received about 5 shoestring bits of rubbery calamari and for £9-9.50… come on, do better.

Nobody came over to see if the food was ok as I would have definitely complained. In the end, we were going to order mains and also desserts in addition to probably spending another £100 on alcohol but decided that we didn’t want this establishment to rip us off further.

Really disappointing. Won’t be back. So many better and higher quality pubs down the road either towards Balham...

This is a review of the food we recently had at the Nightingale. We usually go for drinks and to enjoy the atmosphere, but we decided on this occasion to try a Sunday Roast. This was a tremendous mistake and one we don't intend to repeat. We firstly had to return the Yorkshire Puddings as they were burnt to a crisp - they shouldn't have been sent to the table, they were that burnt. Both portions were generous, but lukewarm and very salty. The carrots were burnt, roast potatoes were stale, although the meat (roast chicken and roast beef) were okay, though not great. At the end we didn't eat much of the it, but to make it worse, I've had a bad stomach ever since I had the meal. I've had roast dinners all over London, and this was one of the worst meals I've had in a long while. I'd rather pay more for a smaller portion and actually enjoy the food. Great pub, but please do something about the...

Nightmare at the nightingale! If I could give 0 stars and get my money back I would. I am utterly APPALLED at the treatment by management of a friendly group of twenty somethings enjoying their evening. The manager / owner very aggressively demanded the group leave immediately as the lights were turned on - just 10 minutes after last orders. The group quite rightly asked why they were being targeted given several other groups (myself included) were allowed to continue enjoying their drinks... but the manager continued to hoof the group out the door, even shouting at them to hurry up. It was bizarre behaviour from a quite awful manager - next time perhaps prioritise your paying customers rather than your friends receiving freebies... just a thought.

I certainly won’t be returning and I can only assume this won’t be the lonely business this awful pub loses as a...

This was £14!!!! Order a board to SHARE. It’s 1 slice of bread, 1 sausage roll, and some ham and cheese. Ohmyyyyyyygod I know how to waste money but this is the biggest waste of money I’ve ever put myself through. By the way, all my friends said the picture makes it look bigger than the board actually was. It was only fit to feed a sylvanian family member. Just one member of the family, mind you.

First time in here for many, many years. Forgotten what a good pub this is, with excellent food and even better beer. Friendly service and big outdoor space too at the back. It was quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime but I suspect it’s busy in the evenings and weekends (especially probably for the Sunday roasts). Lovely to have open fire too for a bit of extra atmosphere.

The Nightingale, funnily enough, on Nightingale Lane! A splendid venue by Young's & Co. A gorgeous bar with plenty of nooks and crannies in which to enjoy a beer or two. Lovely staff to help with the aforementioned task! There is a delightful covered garden terrace at the back with loads of seating. All in all a most delightful place to visit.
