Rude and unreasonable staff and management! It was my first time at the Avalon last night, I was there for a friends 25th birthday and she had booked the courtyard area. About an hour in, I went to the toilet with my friend and I didn’t know that there was a one person per cubicle rule (having never been there before and it being my first time using the ladies that evening).
The female security staff who was working the toilets that evening went crazy on us shouting about the rules and we apologised stating that we didn’t realise that was the rule, she would not let us speak or explain ourselves and continued to shout saying she didn’t care, rules were rules and that we had to leave. She basically said I don’t care if you didn’t know what the rules are, you’re being kicked out. I tried to explain myself and apologise and she just shouted over me.
I said I was unhappy with how unreasonable and rude she was being to us and asked to speak to the manager. The security lady took me to the manager who simply put his hands up and said rules are rules and that whatever this security lady said goes. My friend and I were escorted out of the building and could not enjoy the rest of our night with my friend for her birthday.
Disgusting treatment and completely unreasonable and rude staff who had no regard for us at all. We made a simple mistake and we’re immediately removed, ruining our entire night.
Won’t be going back if the same staff are working / potentially ever at all because it was such a...
Read moreDelicious dinner, gorgeous wine, beautiful dining room, great service and easily accessible location, The Avalon has it all. This would also be a brilliant option for brunch, lunch or drinks and nibbles with friends. The antipasti was sooo yummy - marinated olives, mushrooms, aubergine and sun dried tomatoes, the creamiest burrata, sweet, nutty parma ham and lovely bread, crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. This could definitely be adapted for veggies and vegans - and there are plenty of these options anyway :) Mussels Provencal for the main, with a side of perfect fries, crunchy exterior, fluffy on the inside. Got major food envy looking at our neighbours, the fish and chips look AMAZING. My partner had an elderflower and mint soda, mocktail vibes without the silly price tag, and I had a sublime Picoul de Pinet - if you love wine this place serves up quality at a very fair price. The service here is just how I like it; prompt, polite, friendly. They also do exceptional value midweek specials that I'll definitely be...
Read moreOne of the waiters was quite strange and we saw him eat some food off the plate of the table next to us (although he did ask them for permission first). When we got to paying for our meal we split it but decided not to pay the marked "optional service charge" of 12.5%. The guy with the card machine was perplexed by this and went back to speak to his manager and then asked for feedback about the meal, we said everything was fine we just didn't want to pay as it was optional. He didn't like this and kept pushing/arguing with us about our reasons for not paying the service charge. We told him we come here quite a lot in the past few weeks and he responded saying he "had never seen us before". He then made a comment that the waiting staff really relied on the tips (not my problem if the management won't pay them a living wage) and that we were depriving them of this before he finally processed the card payments. Really bizarre and aggressive attitude which ruined the vibe and is a shame as the food/decor in...
