The Spoke on Holloway Road, overall, it was a delightful experience with a couple of drawbacks that put me off returning.
Let's start with the positives—the food was truly great! The menu offered a variety of delicious options, and the flavours were simply delightful. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty brunch or a scrumptious lunch, The Spoke has got you covered with its delectable dishes.
Another highlight was the friendly staff. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel welcome and attended to my needs with warmth and efficiency. Their attentiveness added to the overall positive atmosphere of the place.
However, during the day, I noticed a somewhat negative aspect that put a damper on the experience. Many people were hogging the seats, working from their laptops for extended periods. While I understand the need for remote work and flexibility, it affected the ambiance of the café. It felt less inviting and vibrant as people were focused on their screens rather than engaging with the space or each other.
This situation made me hesitant about returning to The Spoke during peak hours. I value an atmosphere that encourages social interaction and creates a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, the prolonged presence of laptop users detracted from that aspect.
In conclusion, The Spoke on Holloway Road offers great food and boasts a friendly staff that contributes to a positive dining experience. However, the situation with people using the café as a remote workspace during the day is a drawback that puts me off returning. I hope the management can find a balance to maintain a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for...
Read moreUpdate 2024: I need to revise my review as this business has changed and has lost their touch.
They has good size portion in the past but this time with a portion that cost about £13 + Service we did not get even full. The shape of the food was nice but it was not like before
They had better service: The guy who served our food has seen that I am surprized why their egg benedict did not come with bread. I have expressed my surprise that why it does not come with a slice of bread and he replied : "it is on a bed of potato". A small piece of potato and thats it. A waiter who knows customer service should act quickly and bring some bread for free to make customer happy.
Some suggestion to the owner: I have seen your business from 2020. One thing I have noticed is that you hire cheap waiters and waitresses and they destroying your business because those good people you had in the past all has gone. Your current waiter does not have care for the business. My suggestion is to review the value and philosophy of customer service in your business. If I show to the waiter that I will not get full by this portion and he does not do anything this is the last time for me to be in that shop.
this is the old review : The staff are friendly, polit and the food is fresh and seems the chef cares about what is being cooked over there. Sometimes we buy sourdough bread and it's very nice. I usually try different burgers in London as this is the only food English can cook very well. The burger at Spoke is one of the best burger I had ever in my life. The bun was supper fresh. Meat cooked to the best level, very juicy and tasty. Congrats...
Read moreIncredibly rude member of staff. Arrived on my own but asked for a table for two, with a friend due to join me 5 minutes. A few minutes later, whilst I was sat on my laptop waiting for my friend, two ladies with pushchairs walked in and sat themselves down directly opposite me, despite it being clear there was a place setting there for someone else. I reminded the staff member that I asked for a table for two, and he indicated he'd sort it out when my friend arrived - no problem, I thought. My friend arrived, but he did nothing. So rather than cause a scene, we moved to a table that had become vacant. We were then told we'd have to move because apparently it was a table for 4! There were no parties of 4 waiting. When I questioned this, I was quite rudely told that it was my fault because I had let the women with pushchairs sit at my friend's seat (by the same guy who seated me originally, and who'd also indicated he'd move them on), and also that laptops aren't allowed at weekends...when I pointed out it was actually Friday, I was told I was being unreasonable!
To be fair, the other guy working was apologetic and seemed embarrassed by his colleagues attitude - but all in all a terrible customer experience.
Unless you enjoy luke-warm coffee, shocking customer service, and having to guard your seat, I'd go to the cafe...
