🚇 Nine Elms 🍺 £5.40 Madri ❤️ A fantastic cosy pub in a great location. . Tucked away next to Larkhall Park you will find The Surprise Pub. The nearest tube is Nine Elms which is an eight minute stroll to get here. . The pub was built in 1856 and was a Young’s pub for many years. This picturesque pub was refurbished back in 2018 and looks as pretty as a picture in its park setting. . This is a compact pub which is divided in to three sections plus an extension on the side. As you enter you walk into the main bar area which has a leather banquette and seating area on the right. If you make your way down the left hand side there is a snug with diamond wallpaper with black and white photos. At the rear of the bar is a carpeted area with dartboard, fruity and a charming Victorian fireplace. At the side of the pub is the extension which has additional seating. The servery is small but beautifully formed with an attractive ironwork glasses shelf above. At the front of the pub are plenty of benches to while away in the warmer months. . The beer line was good and included one cask ale. I decided on a pint of Madri which is a good choice if you’re on the sesh. My pint was tip top and cost just over a fiver. The food menu is all about 12 stonebaked pizzas and roasts on a Sunday. . We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was upbeat with a couple of large groups and a few solitary local drinkers. A big shoutout to the Landlady who was so welcoming and chatty with us. This pub had a great Saturday afternoon vibe, this pub felt like such a good place to have a beer. . @thesurprisesw8 was a superb visit and was the best pub experience of the day. The ambience, the service, the reasonably priced beer and the real local feel ticked all the boxes. This cosy little pub really packs a punch, get this one on your list! . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreA nice Surprise indeed! Nothing short of awesome! Snonebaked pizza was the real thing! I was even asked if I wanted extra chili (which I obvs do🌶️). Young's on Cask (Mum's go-to ale) plus an awesome sesh pale ale on keg.
Guinness has been good in the past and I'd even try one of their lagers (like Spanish Madri) if I find myself there on a REALLY hot afternoon.
Fair prices, great choices of inside or outside seating, interesting decor inc. many pics of Battersea Power Stn.
Despite having a traditional, vintage feel, it is very clean and tidy.
And loos were very up-market!
Frankly, 2 pints and a pizza here was a heavenly experience.
Did I say the staff were welcoming...
Read moreA very pleasant surprise! Fantastic location on a central London park. Decent range of beers. Friendly local. Upgraded to five stars after several visits as I've realised this is a real gem of a public house; everything is done with a minimum of fuss: the right beer is delivered to you in perfect condition before you think you've ordered. A range of behaviours is tolerated from the diverse selection of regulars but no one steps out of line. Any minor spills or breakages are cleared away with the minimum of fuss. The food is simple but excellent: freshly baked pizzas. As I say, come a few times and you realise what great...
