The Taste of Jamaica Caribbean Cuisine — Restaurant in London

I’ve ordered from this place twice. Yesterday I ordered Chicken soup, Pepper Steak and a Beef and Cheese Patty. The Soup 10/10 for taste and quantity, Pepper Steak the same 10/10. Not gonna comment on the patty other than to say it was fresh as we know these were not made by the chef. I enjoyed the food so much, I ordered again today but was really disappointed. I ordered Red Peas soup and Curry Goat. The Soup was very tasty I can’t lie, but where’s the meat? I received 6 bones in my container 👀 not even a slither of meat. I’d say the meat was cooked so soft it must have slipped off the bone and the person sharing the food didn’t take the time and care to ensure the meat was added. The curry goat was not curry goat, it was cooked very succulent but had no taste. I had to put the few pieces of meat they gave me (I ordered a large but the meat portion seemed like a small) in a pot and add little scotch bonnet, curry and pimento to give it a little taste before I could eat it. The rice was smothered in gravy 😩. I’ve been out of country for 16 years (away in 🇨🇦) the last I had 🇯🇲 food was calabache in Ilford back in 2006… I was delighted to discover this hidden 💎 on “Just eats”… now you have to understand good 🇯🇲 food needs cooking well and the indicated wait is well worth it… and if it runs over a bit… I’ve ordered 3 times

Oxtail stew dumplings rice peas plantine 10/10 The large lamb chops rice peas dumplings (wonderful sauce with the lamb and tasty lamb cooked perfectly) 10/10 Tonight I shared the curry goat rice peas dumplings. Again 10/10 the large sweet dumplings compliment every dish and the rice a peas served with light fresh veg is splendid.

If you’re new to the the cuisine or even a veteran this is truly a hidden gem… world cuisine cooked served and delivered at an exceptional cost.

Medium portions with sides can serve two and large would be a large for two (portions are spot on).

A taste of...

Ordered online and it came very early! Prices on certain things have increased since last year and be aware that buying direct is cheaper. Mostly tasty, piping hot homecooked-tasting food and large portions make it one to support. Rice and peas, stew sauce and hard food are highlights. Wish they made their patties from scratch, though as I can tell with the use puff pastry that its ordered in, as authentic patties don't use puff pastry at all IIRC. It was a huge patty, albeit lukewarm. Also hope that they inform that their dumpling is deep fried and their fish is very bony and they use copious amounts of a sweet sauce, which I didn't like. Peppers and other veg on it was nice, though. Could also include more veg in their meals and a piece more drumstick in their Stew Chicken, but still one of the best...
