Goodmayes Fish & Chips — Restaurant in London

I called in this evening to place an order as we had some family members over. They were in the mood for fish & chips so I called into the shop to place an order to save time. The women on the phone told me that I would need to wait at least 1 hour for my food. I told her that we always call in before hand to place our order and that it is always ready within 15 minutes like it always have been since they first opened. The women said that I would need to come into the shop in 1 hour time and not before that as they are busy. The lady was very rude on the phone and she refused to take my order so I left it at that. I then got my daughter to call in 10 minutes later hoping that someone else would answer the phone that would be willing to kindly take our order as that was the whole point of the "telephone service" as they advertising on their shop sign dine in/collection. The lady again picked up the phone but this time she was very abrupt and rude to my daughter when she asked if she could place an order for collection. I was in awe shock that we were being disrespected for calling into a restaurant just to place an order, especially one that we have been visiting for more than 2 years to receive treatment like this. After the way we have been treated we will not be visiting this place ever again. We ended up going to the new Mam Grill Hut that's just been opened down the road as we were left with no other choice and we had family guests to feed and it turns out the Mam Grill Huts food turned out to be great and their staff in the grill hut were extremely nice and accommodating so now we know where to go next time where we are respected and...

Overall a decent place to visit for fish and chips. The chips, like other reviews have stated, could do with a bit more frying. They can be quite soggy. I blame this on how busy the shop can get, with staff rushing the frying process. The batter for the fish is OK, not crisp as I would like but just fine and edible. Though, I must stress the batter does not stick to the fish well and peels off, leaving the skin of the fish on show. It's not like a Harry Ramsden's. Perhaps, changing the batter recipe will be the best option.

Today I experienced two white males, swearing at the staff for taking too long and then walking out. As they walked out they sarcastically asked the owner to recommend another local chippy. Service needs to be quicker, though I wouldn't want to serve rude people like that.

The wings were a little burnt, though the battered and normal sausages are good. Drinks selection is also good. Mushy peas and beans tasted nice, while the curry sauce was too runny (not like a Chinese takeaway standard). Portion size is huge and a large fish, both haddock and cod, can be easily shared between two people. Packaging for the fish is in a box, while the chips are wrapped in paper.

The member of staff that served me, the young male, spoke well, but you could see he was under extreme pressure to meet customer demand. The other staff members are quite old and not as mobile. They need to help eachother or employ younger, mobile, fast workers.

Let's hope this business steps up as they do have a great menu. As a local and new business, I want this place to thrive. I would like to come back and try the masala fish, kebabs and grilled...

Definitely one of the best fish and chips i have had, there staff are nice although they tend to forget you have already paid, this happened to me numerous times and I now pay by card so it’s digital to show them when they again forget.

Unfortunately they are very unorganised, it’s disgraceful tbh, I have always had to wait 15-25mins to get simple fish and chips, they never have any fish cooked, it’s only cooked when you order!! What type of fish and chips shop doesn’t have fish ready at 7pm or any time of the day??

On top of that they don’t feel the need to tell you it will take time as we need to cook it, they just know that you know it’s cooking when ordered.

When it is busy then I wouldn’t bother as it’s completely mismanaged by the ordering staff, just walk away and come at another time as they do good food.

To have a name of “Fish and Chips”, they should focus on that more then having half of their staff cooking lamb donnas, and other burgers! That’s why they are disorganised.

On top of this they focus on online orders more then those waiting in the shop, standing in the shop for 20mins watching them pack numerous fish and chip boxes for delivery just make you think what is going on?

It’s sad to say but I don’t see them lasting much longer if they don’t make drastic business changes to their over complex menu options, they need to focus on fish and chips and customers in...
