We came here for what I hoped would be a lovely brunch for me and my family. The hostess that seated us was really sweet to start the visit. But then it was pretty much downhill from there. We placed our orders for drinks for our party of 6 initially, 3 of them were delivered swiftly and the remaining 3 we had to ask for at least 2 times before they arrived. It seems as though the waitress didn’t place the order for them as when we asked the 2nd time after almost a 30 minute wait, we saw her punch the order in the till. When having placed the order for the food, two people from my family ordered ham and cheese omelettes. About 5 minutes later the waitress returned to the table and informed us that they were sold out of ham and cheese sandwiches. We all looked at each other strangely and I told the waitress, no one ordered ham & cheese sandwiches they wanted the omelette. My husband was also very particular about his order, he wanted the English breakfast but he specifically asked to remove the egg, mushrooms & tomatoes. When his breakfast arrived, there were tomatoes and an egg on his plate! My point being that the waitress obviously did not properly note down their orders correctly. Although the staff had offered to rectify the order, my husband refused as 3 of us were already halfway through our meals and he didn’t want to be waiting for the food to potentially come out wrong again or for us to have finished and for his food to not be delivered yet. (No one wants to be that last person playing catch up when everyone else has finished!) The waitress had said we wouldn’t be charged for my husbands meal as it was their mistake which is fair. We also asked for butter as the toast did not have any and our request was ignored. At the end of the meal we asked for the bill and lo and behold they did try to add on the meal that my husband did not eat!!! Thankfully I checked the receipt. The only positive opinion I do have about the venue is that the decor was beautiful and the outdoor garden would be lovely in the warmer months but overall it was an awful experience. The food was probably a 4/10 at best. Such a shame as we picked this cafe based on the reviews but it seems we were unlucky to have had such terrible service and a...
Read moreI wasn't going to write a review as everything was just about ok. But after reading an obnoxious response to a customer from the owner Patrick, I felt it was needed. First of all, the young staff member who served us was passive aggressive in their 'hospitality'. Felt like we were more of a burden then people who fund their wages. Anyway, on to the food. Ordered the full English asked politely if they could give me scrambled instead of fried, and well done bacon. Not big asks for a £20 plate of food but then the staff member comes back 15 mins later and says that the chef doesn't do scrambled egg after midday as that's for breakfast. What kind of an all day brunch is this I wondered. I didn't complain and literally 5 seconds later the food was slapped on my table indicating the happy go lucky chef had already made the food without asking me if I wanted something different or even informing me that scrambled wasn't an option. And the bacon was not well done. That, just winds me up. And there wasn't alot of it either. But the sausages were nice. Whatever, I ate it, it was nice but £20 worth? Nah, not really. Coffee was good, I can say that for certain. Was going to try what looked like a nice cake on the counter but by this point I had had enough. Conclusion is that it's a basic joint with upmarket aspirations and therefore is heavily overpriced for a place down the backstreets that serves nice but not great food. Get a take away coffee and tell Patrick he needs to do better, wherever he was hiding. He was probably the chef who refused to scramble an egg because it was too long after midday for him to make the effort. What a limp wrist he must have. This is not "revenge" as you called it out on the other review as I have no personal gripe with the establishment or old Pat. But it is a customer you not only left disappointed, but one who then saw the audacity you have in such abundance thrown about in the review section at the people who keep you going. People like yourself need to reel their necks in...
Read moreMy chai latte tasted so fake, like it was cheap powder sachet from somewhere. very watery, very disappointed. The English breakfast was a completely failed meal that shouldn't be brought out to serve to a customer, also: 1.Poor presentation because the food didn't look fresh at all, it looked like it was made by an inexperienced cook. What I was concerned about was it felt like the food that'd been stored in a refrigerator for a while, had lost its freshness and was cooked right away in a hurry without defrosting the meat properly, so quality is reflected in the result indeed. 3.They didn't give me a receipt- I've been charged more than 12.50% discretionary service charge. This is usually a red flag for a business, so I'd suggest asking for a receipt and checking the total amount before you pay, just in case. 4.The restaurant atmosphere and service was nice but overrated. (In response to the owner) Although I don't have the receipt you should have given me, I do have a transaction record on my credit card and photos of what we've ordered- evidence speaks, therefore, I am not sure what you are trying to explain to me regarding that you think you didn't overcharged more than 12.5% discretionary service charge? Fresh food can be reflected in what it presents as well. The salad from the other table was as sad as my English breakfast. When the food tasted wrong and failed, there was a message that something was wrong with the kitchen's quality system. Thank you for mentioning if I will return again. To be fair, the bill is worth spending on real coffee and real authentic food , and does not deserve to be paid for poor quality meals and being overcharged. I...
