My group and I were quite disappointed with the White Swan Twickenham. Talking about the service first, when we were seated inside, we had the displeasure of having a very pushy waitress. We had barely seated and she came over asking if we want drinks, I explained we were still waiting for other 2 people and would wait for them. She appeared unhappy with this. She still came over several times to our table while we were still looking at the menu. We also felt her manners left a lot to be desired. As we didn't want to spend our money and time putting up with her rudeness, we decided to seat outside. The various waiters and waitresses waiting outside were a lot better and did their jobs well, specially Emma. The noise both inside and outside war unbearable. The White Swan is a small pub with tables very close to one another. There were various tables with several dogs, one of which had three dogs with them. Some dogs were poorly trained and barked a lot. The same outside, with several dogs barking in uncomfortable distance from us. Scratching themselves, which made fur flies everywhere in a windy day. Probably getting in people's food also. Our group felt that was a massive health and safety breach and very poor hygiene from the pub management. We've seen dogs in pubs often and don't mind but have never seen such a high number of dogs in such a confined space before barking and being a nuisance to other paying customers. In regards to the food, the food was good. However, the price of the starter chicken wings were frankly absurd! 4 chicken wings for...9 pounds. 4!!! 2 pounds and 25 pence per wing! Absolute rip off! I had my son visiting the UK from Rio de Janeiro and he was gobsmacked by the paltry portion of wings for almost a tenner. Overall, the White Swan has nothing to shout out about and must look into their ridiculously small portions and the hygienic issue of having too many dogs at once being and making other people's eating experience an...
Read moreThe Swan is a picture of a quintessential countryside pub next to the river. If you are not local then you might find it hard to find it as the location is past the residential area and is further down the river... Or you might come across the pub when you're walking down the river path to Richmond.
Like the name and if your lucky you'll see white swans swimming around. The pub has a small indoor space and a terrace overlooking the river and just across the pub is an extension for outdoor seating. The staff is quite good to remind any guest when high tide comes and when it comes it might flood the outdoor space. There is also a sign next to the toilet entrance as a reminder for all the customers.
The staff are always friendly and chatty and the food is delicious and well worth the money. My friend and I had a "vegetarian" burger which was very tasty. Didn't know how big a portion of chips the burger would come, so I tried to order an extra bowl of chips but I was quickly reminded by one of the staff the portion of the chip are decent, and it was and I had a hard time finishing it. The chips they serve are not French fries but...
Read moreAbsolutely lovely location next to the river, this pretty establishment is popular and buzzing. We visited on a bank Holiday, and were very lucky get a table quickly although others were waiting around 20 minutes. The price of the food was fairly standard for a fullers. However, the quality could have been better. It was edible, although my scampi was all piled onto of the chips on a faily small plate, I suspect to make the portion seem larger. It was sufficient for me as I only eat small portions. However my friend was left feeling like could have eaten more. Although she did say the chicken was a bit dry. All in all I enjoyed the location and the food was satisfactory. I would say there is limited vegetarian options, only salads available, which I found a little disappointing, so ended up with the scampi which I dont normally eat but I begrudge paying over £15 for a salad. I would return and would say its worth a visit...
