Unfortunately today my friend and I were racially profiled despite me visiting this café previously. We arrived and ordered as normal. Approximately 10 minutes later the waitress came back to say she needed us to pay in advance and she forgot to mention it earlier. Having eaten there previously I thought it bizarre and bad manners but proceeded to pay. I later found out I had been over charged for a coffee I didn’t order ( but I’ll come back to that) When I asked the waitress why I needed to pay before my food had arrived she mentioned they had hit and runs and it was a new policy.
It didn’t sit right with either my friend or I ( we were the only black customers ) so I observed the other tables as they were leaving and we noticed that NONE of the other patrons were paying in advance.
I challenged the waitress at this point and said is there a reason why we were the only patrons that were asked to pay in advance to which she replied without prompting “ do you think I singled you out?” I replied I don’t think you did it’s clear you have..: to which she didn’t have a reply.
On top of that I was over charged for the coffee and no attempt was made to rectify it until the and when I asked if they planned to refund me.. they said oh yes it’s just £3.40 but I had to prompt them.
I won’t be giving this place my money ever again and wish the previous owners...
Read moreHorrible quality of coffee & service after the 222 takeover!
This place used to be my almost everyday coffee spot when it was Daisy Grey. Now, under 222, the coffee quality is worse than instant coffee from any supermarket.
I’ve read other reviews as well, and it’s disappointing to see that instead of taking negative feedback constructively, the owners respond with rather harsh comments.
I really miss the old Daisy Grey and their great coffee. Prices are nearly central London level, which I never minded paying for good coffee — but not for the terrible ones being served here lately.
I’m all about supporting small businesses, but you can’t deliver such poor quality and still expect support.
Response on below comment: Yes, I am aware that take over has been done last year and I took time to give this review as I was hoping that with time coffee quality will improve. Specially for this price, it’s honestly really bad and I can see others are echoing too for coffee quality. It’s one thing to take pride in the craft and another is taking feedback and doing something about it when it’s been repeatedly commented...
Read moreI’m a bit disappointed to be honest - been coming here for 5 years. It was originally Daisy Grey but the change over in ownership has resulted in two major changes: The coffee has gotten terrible - it’s highly diluted and just lacks any sort of flavor and it now costs £4.10 for a cup of Joe! Overall service has dropped, the personalization and care that existed.
My advice to the owner - come in and be a customer, experience the coffee and food as others do. You are charging far too much when compared to London prices, I work in central London and it’s cheaper to buy bespoke non chain coffee there than it is at Triple Two especially when it doesn’t taste nice.
Also - to everyone that commented about being racially profiled - I don’t think it’s a race thing, the system has changed. I’m not white but they did explain to us that people were walking out without paying which was shameful on people who steal. I think explaining this up front would help as it can be misunderstood by others.
I wish the owner good luck and I do wish the coffee and service get better as we love having a local...
