We went to London for a couple of days and we stayed at the Travelodge in Woolwich. The restaurants in the area are mostly selling grease; deep-fried chicken, kebab, burgers, that kind of stuff. We're more into healthier food - I do enjoy a good burger, don't get me wrong, but that stuff was just really unhealthy. We did however, find two good places to eat: this one and Fusion on Woolwich High Street.
The interior looked clean and cosy - lots of light wood - and there were a bunch of Vietnamese eating here. Always a good sign! For starters, we had - sorry, I have no access to their menu and my Vietnamese is horrible. We had, I was saying, spring rolls - not the deep-fried kind but assembled from noodles, lemongrass, crispy pork and rice wrappers. Wonderful! Really, they were so good we had some more for desert.
The main course - we had noodles and, being descriptive here, little pork hamburgers in a broth. Really nice, even though the food was only lukewarm. Now, I did not care, event though the people next to us did. It felt like this was the correct temperature for this food, a bit like a warm salad. It was a very nice place, the service was attentive and the food was healthy and good.
I certainly recommend this restaurant, especially to tourists looking for healthy food. In this area of fast, greasy takeaways both Fusion and Viet Baguette are a breath...
Read moreFantastic Vietnamese restaurant tucked away on an unassuming side street in Woolwich. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere.
One of the standout dishes for me was the vegetarian pancake. It had a wonderfully crispy exterior and was filled with a delicious combination of bean sprouts and vegetables. The flavors were fresh and vibrant, making it a truly enjoyable dish. I also tried the sweet chilli tofu baguette, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were well-balanced, with the sweetness of the chilli complementing the tender tofu perfectly. The baguette itself was fresh and served as an excellent vehicle for the flavors to shine.
To accompany my meal, I decided to try Vietnamese coffee for the first time, and I must say, it was fantastic. The combination of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk created a delightful and indulgent flavor that I found myself thoroughly enjoying.
One unique aspect of Viet Baguette is the self-service system. Each table is equipped with a notepad, allowing you to write down your order and communicate with the staff. This added a sense of convenience and efficiency to the...
Read moreGenerous portions and tasty but NO SAUCE! If it makes it easier to imagine, it’s like a very tasty spaghetti Bolognese with loads of mince beef but BARELY ANY TOMATO SAUCE AND DRY AS HELL! If you’re Vietnamese you know this dish needs a good amount of fish sauce, it’s the star of the dish. I don’t eat a lot of fish sauce, I don’t even have it at home so when they deliver me a large delicious meal with not even half a tiny cup of sauce I find it very frustrating as it’ll always be the thing to ruin the dish, make it so bland and dry as it is. I came here a lot of times, ordering quite a lot and left notes for them twice but both times they wouldn’t give me more - actually, this time they probs gave me a teaspoon more compare to last time 😂. Shame as the food is very GENEROUS and TASTY, I am surprised to not see the Vietnamese complain about this issue (I guess they have the sauce at home so they can always add extra into the food, but I don’t have it so I find it so frustrating!!!) like.. at least fill the little...
