Wimpy — Restaurant in London

Avoid this joke of a place at all costs. It's a Tommy and Jerry show.

I was visiting this branch for a good few months on a weekly basis to try it after being a regular customer at Wimpy Beckenham with my family.

What started off with two good members of staff there providing good food and service (especially one of them) now of which both have left after being taking the biscuit out of to put it politely by owner and "manager" Babu paying them £7 a hour they told me has turned into a Tommy and Jerry show these last few visits. Babu would hardly be there in the evening when I was dining there and had these guys working on their own. They got fed up and left. Good move for them.

Babu is friendly and it stops there. He comes from a 9-5pm office background and is a previous personal bank manager with NO experience of hospitality at all. Why he chose to own a Wimpy is beyond me.

These last few visits it's been him and his newest recruits (2) trying to provide good food and service and failing miserably (one Indian guy as the chef each time). These also seem to have no experience whatsoever too. These last two visits my dad ordered their Sea Shanty Burger which takes them about 25 minutes to cook and build between Babu and the "chef".

You walk in and he always checks the clock when we have over a hour before close. On our latest visit (11/09/24) he's now saying about closing earlier. I suggested maybe closing between 4-6pm as he seems he can't bare being there any longer bossing his very little staff around. He rushes you from start to finish so he can try and be out the door by close too when it should be the customers out the door by close not him. Also you'd give customers a grace period after all they're paying your wages. Likes to take the dessert orders with the food order as it's "easier for him". You've not even finished your food and he's putting your dessert on the table. Keeps coming over to see what he can take away.

Because he's only been here the last few times I guess I hoped it would get better but the last visit was the final straw given the same rushed service, long wait for the Sea Shanty Burger, very crisp onion rings and his general lack of "care" for his business and his customers.

He says "we try our best" and thanks for you for his custom but the above says very different. Also a empty restaraunt and staff leaving is a big clue he won't be able to carry on for much longer.

Now you can understand why I say it's a Tom and Jerry show.

The place is also cluttered and generally dirty no surprise there.

It was nice to meet you Babu and I wish you the very best for the future but this investment wasn't the one for you and you've just lost your probably only...

Good quality fast food. More expensive than other fast food chains but portions and freshness of the ingredients worth it. Milkshakes are to die for. The guy in the kitchen even went the extra mile and did me a free side salad with our meal, even though it wasn't on the menu ( I wish it was), and it was really good! Decor comfortable and relaxed.

UPDATE September 23: Came back in here again with my wife and she had a chicken stack burger with chips and an orange juice whilst I had a quarter pounder with cheese, sweet potato chips, and a milkshake. All delicious (esp the milkshake), generous sized, although the orange juice was just the basic reconstituted stuff. Restaurant still very clean ( Inc the toilets which is always a good sign) Babu the owner very friendly...

I have visited this wimpy before food usually good and customer service. However really disappointed we came in near closing time and instead of being let go we were told we could stay . So we stayed and ordered our food. We were made to pay for the food before it arrived in which we usually pay afterwards . We sat and waited for our me meal . My mother didnot get what she had orderd and paid for . She got greecy burnt bacon with one hashbrown . The owner knew he didnt have what she wanted but insisted that he did to get our money which was not fair . The burger wasnt great like how it usually is .
