I had an unbelievably frustrating experience recently. When we walked in, there was no one greeting us or mentioning any issues with table turn arounds/delays in the kitchen etc we were left completely in the dark. Naturally, it’s a pub, so we assumed we could simply come in, order a drink, and enjoy some food. Everything started off fine; the waitress smiled at us as we sat down, and drinks were brought to our table without a hitch.
However, things took a turn for after we had been sitting at the table for a whole hour with no sign of our food. (This wasn’t a huge issue as we were all enjoying each others company and having a laugh) Out of nowhere, a staff member—who looked like she was the manager in a black polka dot blouse approached us with an angry tone, insisting we shouldn’t have sat there because the table would be needed in 40 minutes.
This was the first we were hearing of this and I emphasised this by informing her we have been sat here for an hour and no one has approached us. She claimed she had "missed" us, even though a separate member of staff had previously explained that our order was placed and gone through however that it might take 40 minutes to an hour to receive our food. ( this again was no issue on our part) but I don’t think it’s fair that we were left to sit there for an hour without any communication, and now we're being reprimanded for sitting at a table
When we calmly expressed that we were aware of the situation, asking what she suggested we do, she just shrugged and acted like it wasn’t her role to provide solutions to an issue that lies with her, not us. There were no reserved signs on the table when we sat down, and the area was practically empty with multiple empty tables seating the same amount of covers as the table we are on. With three children in tow, we were just trying to find a place to enjoy our meal without causing a scene.
Feeling uncomfortable due to her aggression, and poor attitude we suggested we just get a refund and leave, but was told no because the chefs were already preparing our food. So when we then asked well what would she like us to do was told ‘well you’re the ones that came in and sat yourselves down’ and shrugged once again then walked off. Again providing no solution to the issue.
This was the last encounter we had with the quite frankly embarrassing member of staff.
However she is Correct, we did, as this is being sold as a family friendly pub, but it seems we appear to be mistaken.
Shortly after that, when the food arrived, the steak flatbread was stone cold. At that point, I didn’t want to deal with it any longer and given the strict time frame that had been put before us I didn’t want to delay our exiting so I ate my meal in silence before leaving. And let’s not forget—no one bothered to check on us during our meal to ask if everything was okay with the food! We did however be courteous enough to leave as soon as we finished allowing enough time for the table to be prepared for the next diners
To top it all off, as we were leaving, walking past the multiple empty tables. the same staff member was sat at the front, completely glued to her phone and oblivious to our presence exiting, even with three noisy kids in tow. So I can only assume the she must have ‘missed us’
Appears the root of this issue seemed to stem from her complete lack of attention in the first place however we are made to feel like we are in wrong.
It’s incredibly disappointing and frankly unacceptable to be treated this way after trying to enjoy a...
Read moreEdit - Monday 18th August 2025 Thanks for your reply Sue - when I went indoors to grab some napkins, the server was doing something else, and saw me, so I said I'm just grabbing some napkins. She just nodded. But no mention of she'll get me some wipes. When we'd finished starters, I went to the bar for more drinks, and said I think the kitchen must've got confused as they gave me wings with bones. She said "sorry about that". I didn't send them back at the time as I just tucked in and didn't want hubby to finish his nachos while waiting for fresh wings.
Difficult to work out how many stars to give - certainly not 5, but stars for food quality only. We arrived just gone 11am, just after opening. First thing we noticed was the really sticky bar - as we were the 1st customers, we found that a bit odd. Sat outside and opted for a bench as we noticed some of the chairs were in need of a clean. Not to be put off by these couple of oversights, we ordered our food. I went to the bar to order, but felt awkward as I had just disturbed the bar person as she was sat at a table having a bite to eat and drink. I ordered boneless chicken wings plus nachos for starters. Followed by XL mixed grill skillet and hunters chicken skillet. I did ask the server what the hunters chicken was like, and she pulled a face and said it wouldn't be her choice! The food arrived and straight away I noticed the chicken wings were not boneless - but I figured I'd eat them anyway. We weren't given napkins so I had to go inside and grab a handful. Also no finger bowl provided - which should be a must when serving finger food. The nachos were cold at the bottom of the bowl but tasted OK. The mains arrived on small white oval plates - not skillets as described in the menu and not sizzling! In fact the XL mixed grill arrived on the same size plate as the hunters chicken - so not completely convinced it was XL. Presentation was very disappointing but the food did taste really good, except for the peas which were on the dry side. The steak, chicken and gammon were cooked to perfection - really very tasty. It took an age for the finished plates to be removed, attracting flies, so we moved them across to another table. I mean overall, we went for a meal and we were happy with the main courses. But the things mentioned above make me think that more attention to detail wouldn't go amiss - especially when the bar isn't busy! The staff should eat before shifts start, that way they could be cleaning the bar in quiet periods. Staff should also sing the praises of the menu and not grimace when asked. Finger bowls and napkins should be provided with finger food. If you advertise a sizzling skillet, you should serve a...
Read moreAfter ordering waited 1hr 10 mins for the food. Forat time ever I fell asleep waiting for my food. I get they are busy but surely not this long. They were 70% full. Stood at the bar for 10 mins and not even any eye contact with staff and manager just in their own world. When food arrived, well what can I say. Lol. It was as if we had gone back to the 90s. Microwave and re heated food everywhere. Chicken wings had the taste and feel of it being microwaved and reheated again. Breast of chicken which was so small and laughable. The condition of it was as if it had been boiled days ago or heated from a fridge in the morning. Portion size was small to say the least. The steak was a decent size but it did not taste like beef tbh. It was as if it was cooked in the oven and then chucked in a pan for a minute. Everyone's food was warm but just not hot as if it had been sitting somewhere getting cold. The children's pizza was a Chicago town pie/pizza which was appalling. The base not cooked. The chips looked and tasted as if they had been cooked left to sit there and cooked again. They were old. The vegetables such as peas and carrots were not even the colour you expect them to be. They arrived as if they were done a few days ago. Both were rock hard and again tasted of boiled old veg. Every piece of food was tasteless. The only thing that had flavour was Southern fried chicken because it was cooked in the oven or microwave like that. Now going onto the organisation which was staff members rushing around all over the place with no smiles on their faces and seeming tired of it all trying to avoid customers. I had heard good things about this place and took my 4 year old so he could run around. He loved it and it was perfect for him with the garden. I am happy he enjoyed it. The taste of our soft drinks was also strange. Coke and lemonade tasted very watered down with a strange after taste that I could not work out. Overall just surprised at such a busy place with such a poor standard of food and service. Firstly they need a chef. Then they need someone to make sure what is sent out meets a decent standard. I am only expecting a 7/10 instead of 2/10 like a 90s pizza hut but when compared to this was a 4/10. I am laughing at myself writing this as I honestly had not been to any pub like this with the food standard just about edible for 25 years with zero taste on every item of food almost. Please avoid this place until...
