Whoooooo this is Aladdin’s cave, it’s wonderland it’s the really really hidden gem nestling in the heart of Peckham’s Rye Lane. As you walk through the door you are magically transported into wonderland. You won’t believe this is a bar, but it really is. What a magical place , it’s homely but you are out, but you are in , damn it’s weird but amazing. It’s like a curiosity shop and a museum and a collectors hidden labyrinth, it’s Aladdin’s cave, it really is.
You are drinking cocktails in Aladdin’s cave, if you want a night out in a place that is definitely not run of the mill then this is the place for you. The owners are working in synergy and the bar reflects who they are as people. They are two lovely people expressing themselves and it works .
They are creative with a vision. They opened this place back in 2019 just before the hell that was the pandemic but managed to survive thank goodness. This bar is open seven days a week which is hard work but at least you know that you can always have an amazing place to take your visitors that is so different compared to any other cocktail bar you have ever seen. The owner describes it as “World inspired and catering for everyone “ I agree. They don’t serve food at the time of writing this review but that’s in...
Read moreThis place sounded great from reviews, and the decor, ambience and staff were all great. However the seats were quite uncomfortable - very worn and low-down, and they only had a list of a few special cocktails rather than a full menu. They said they could do anything, but I think it's nice to see some inspiration. I'm not an expert in cocktails so I look to the experts to give me some ideas of what they can make. One of us was drinking alcoholic and the other non-alcoholic, so again when I asked about what mocktails were available I was told I could have anything, but I didn't really know what would be nice. I think it would be really awesome to come up with a great mocktail menu as well as a more extended cocktail menu for those of us who don't know what we want, or want to be challenged and inspired to try different things. Shame as I really loved the vibe, but for £20 for two cocktails (one soft, one hard) that were uninspired it's not somewhere I...
Read moreThere's no name on the outside of the building but there is a sandwich board on the pavement.
Dogs are allowed in and I'm allergic so that was fun, we were seated by the stairs and at one point as a dog was ascending the staircase there was a massive, succulent globule of dog saliva way too close to my drink! 🤢😱
The decor is giving "Tropical Vibes meets Nana's Living Room". They have lots and lots of huge, impressive plants inside and they're truly gorgeous. There are also lots of cutesy mismatched chairs and little tables crammed into every nook and cranny. The toilet (upstairs) was actually very clean and I loved the wallpaper, cistern and handle on the chain to flush.
Drinks were not too expensive (for gentrified Peckham), the bar is well stocked and most of the staff were friendly and professional. Music was upbeat, housey instrumentals and...
