We used to come to Zia Lucia regularly when it had just opened and was just a pizza restaurant. At one point it was our favourite restaurant and we would come for pizza every week! We finally visited after covid this evening and it was disappointing. Although I had a reservation, I had to wait for ten minutes while another couple was served (who did not have a reservation and were given our table) and made to stand despite being visibly pregnant. I asked for substitution on my pizza as I can’t have certain types of cheese due to said pregnancy and was told that I had to pay extra regardless - “the system wouldn’t let them make changes” - what system? This used to be a small, authentic pizza place rather than a chain? It was so odd. Our aubergine fried starter was almost £7 for four tiny balls - what a joke! It cost almost as much as a pizza. The waitress kept going to the couple behind us first despite us waiting for some time. The pizza I ordered, the Ariana that used to be my favourite, came with barely any sausage at all. So I basically ate a pizza or bread and cheese and rocket (my substitution I had to pay extra for!). It was really sad to see what has happened to this restaurant. There is really no excuse for bad and slow service, especially during covid when restaurants have been suffering and should be welcoming old customers back. The tiramisu which we had for dessert was really excellent. I hope they sort out their growing pains in the future. There is much...
Read moreZia Lucia was our favorite Pizza in London. We went to the Islington branch several times in the past. last night (October 15) we had a really poor experience mainly around the service. for the first time it felt like we are eating in a corporate chain. My daughter eats only plain pasta (All other 3 of us had pizzas, drinks and disserts), we ordered one for her and got it. The dish was very small ( but this is not the issue), I wanted to order another portion, the branch manager ( or a shift manager, not sure...) came I asked for another portion, and he said "we don't serve plain pasta" ( already very strange, since serving plain past is not really a problem for the kitchen). And then he sent his waitress to tell me that she will charge me (retroactively) on the portion my daughter already had like the cheapest pasta dish they had in the menu, and am I sure that I want another portion, which I wanted since I didn't want to leave my daughter hungry. eventually I paid ~£26 for two plain pasta dishes. the end result is that I left the restaurant extremely disappointed, not from the food but from the lack of flexibility and poor service. instead of absorbing the "Huge" loss for one pasta dish by allowing me to pay a lower price or absorbing the mistake, they were really unpleasant and faced me with no option, but to tell my daughter that I'm not ordering another one not sure I will come again to this place, that in the past was...
Read moreI was travelling and had a stop in Holloway looking for a place that had gluten free food, and jumped in Zia Lucia's restaurant. The staff was very kind even tho the place was fully booked and busy (football match). I asked for gluten free options (as they show on their menu online/ google ) but the lady told me that the gluten free pizzas and pastas are cooked in the same oven and pan as non gluten free... which was a bit sad since Celiac/Gluten Free it's an illness that needs to be taken very seriously and not as a fashion trend. Gluten free food must be cooked in seperate pans or ovens if you're allergic or intolerant...and the point of my review is because more often (we) Celiac people adapt to measures that are risky for our health just because we're in company of friends or don't want to be too picky, but we need to in order to make restaurant aware of the illness. Apart from that seems a really nice place to eat in; the staff, again, was very nice, and i would recommend it if you're around that area. Please take it as a constructive criticism to upgrade :)
After reading your reply: this makes me realize that you don't take the illness seriously and professionally because maybe you get costumers that decide to not care about contamination. Gluten free food has to be cooked in separate areas. So if your place can't have an area for gluten free simply don't put the news online and make...
