Lovely experience. I had walked past awhile back and it was full and lively. I saved it on my list of places to try out. Went on a date night, they gave us a higher up perch. The front looks like a deli and you may not know there’s booths nearer the back. Some booths on lower ground, wheelchair accessible, and booths above ground for those more able. I loved needing to climb into our booth, it felt fun and perfect for a date night. Unfortunately they only have one red wine by the glass, this could be improved - but the red by the glass was delicious so definitely a good choice house staple. They gave my hubby some free nibbles because I was so late. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese, it was a large by London standards portion. Excellent and generous selection of meats, cheeses were interesting but lacked a little variety, but the mixed veg completely made up for it and the addition of fresh burrata and some anchovies was an unexpected addition. As a whole I’d rate that platter 8/10, and we are huge charcuterie/cheese fans so that is saying a lot. We also ordered a pizza. Now it’s important to know their pizzas are more bread-like, but have a fantastic consistency, generous topping and overall it was great. I prefer crispy thin bases and my hubby prefers sourdough, but we both enjoyed it. The service was excellent, they only add 10% tip, I included extra because it felt so warm and welcoming and personal. It’s family run by a father-daughter duo. The music was upbeat and lively. Free limoncello at the end of icing on the cake. I look forward to returning with my mum. I’ll definitely be back. We ordered two alcoholic drinks each, a pizza and the charcuterie/cheese platter and it came to £73 for the both of us. We were totally stuffed! Even left some bits behind. We could have got away with just the platter between us two. Excellent value for money.

One of the querkiest restaurants I've ever been. Indeed very small and compact, makes use of its limited espace with a double-deck type of seating. Genious! A very cosy feel, with separate compartments. The chunky light wood used throughout, on a scaffolding frame, and white ceilings keep it light. But it is the food and service that will make me come back. Calamari as starter, seafood lasagna as main and homemade tiramisu as desert. All quality ingredients, well cooked and presented. I'm not a fan of pasta but that lasagna was truly delicious. If you like fishy taste, the flavours and textures were really good. I have since been back and we had lasagna bolognese, seafood linguine and 2 pizzas. Again the food was delicious. They also have a good selection of Italian wines. The only minus is that when very busy it can get quite warm and perhaps a tad stuffy on the upper level. I just took off my jumper and I was fine. Just take it as part of the experience. In brief, an interesting restaurant, worth visiting. Querky, certainly different, the food is great and the service excellent. Daniele was superb! Highly recommended. Just make sure you book in advance. First time I went on a Wednesday and was packed, even with a table booked I had to wait!

I came here with my boyfriend, both of us have spent a lot of time in Italy anf cook a lot of Italian food ourselves. Whilst I liked the restaurant and the mezzanine tables, we were both disappointed with the food. We also had to wait quite a bit with the ordering as there was only one person working. We had a little starter, which was OK but also a bit stale, but when we received our pasta, we were actually shocked! It was FROZEN, which was apparent as we had water in our dish. Also, both of our pasta were the same, although we ordered different kinds. When we asked if the pasta was fresh (which we expect in an Italian restaurant), we were firstly told yes, and afterwards, they admitted that it was purchased and not homemade. We also then asked the chef if it was prior frozen and just reheated as it was piping hot and very quickly served and had water in the dish. The chef eventually admitted that it was because their menu is so big that they can't do it otherwise. Why offer so many dishes with so many pasta options then?? I don't expect to get frozen food when eating out. It doesn't even matter that the sauce wasn't that bad, I will never come back!!! It's shameful

TLDR: make your way here, bring friends, an appetite and appreciation of great atmosphere. GREAT gluten free options (best ever)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Roma, a charming pizzeria nestled in the heart of Islington, London. As someone who has savored pizzas in New York City for many years, I can confidently say that Roma not only meets but surpasses the high standards set by the Big Apple's finest but also competes (and beats) the pizza I’ve enjoyed in London and around the world.

The star of Roma is undoubtedly its proprietor, Michael. His charisma and warmth make every guest feel like family. The atmosphere he has cultivated is nothing short of magical, with the perfect blend of music and décor that transports you straight to a festive Italian street.

The menu at Roma is a delightful surprise, especially for those with dietary restrictions. The gluten-free options are phenomenal; our gluten-free party members unanimously agreed that Roma's GF pizza was the best they've ever had. But the true revelation was the Truffle Potato and Pork pizza - an exquisite combination of flavors that can only be described as 'out of this world'.

Roma may be small in size, but it's immense in character and quality. It stands as a highlight not just in Islington, but for pizza aficionados everywhere. A visit to Roma isn't just a meal; it's an experience that leaves you longing for more. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Roma is a must-visit for anyone in search of the...

We came as a table of two on a Sunday 6pm, through The Fork with a 50% discount. Unfortunately, the experience was very bad.

Our pizzas took around 40 min to arrive, which felt excessive given that only one large table was present aside from us. When the food finally arrived, one of the pizzas was wrong and had to be remade. The pizzas themselves were soggy and had a frozen taste (supermarket ones were easily as good). To make matters worse, one of the pizza boards had visible bits of beef on it - even though we hadn’t ordered anything with beef, which was concerning.

We stayed polite and didn’t raise this, as the waitress seemed stressed. However, when it came time to pay, we weren’t shown a breakdown of the bill - just the total amount. After paying by card, we noticed we’d been overcharged by £6. When we raised this, the male staff member argued / couldn’t provide a proper breakdown and had to recreate the bill from scratch. He eventually gave us the correct change, but did so in a loud and clearly irritated manner.

I live down the road and have tried both the pizza places up Holloway Rd and both were far better in service and quality. Really poor experience as a whole - almost everything went wrong that could have!

Actual decor and...
