Fantastic pub. We noticed this pub whilst stuck in traffic on Royal Engineers Road and often wondered what it was like inside. We finally got around to visiting a few months ago and we’re delighted we did.
Inside the the pub is clearly a super old building, that is traditional in style, with old wooden beams In the roof and typical styling that has been modernised to create a good balance of comfort and style.
The decor and friendly staff create a lovely atmosphere. The drinks are reasonably priced and are served with a smile. There are plenty of tasty bites to order on the menu and the food is also good value. There are also a selection of board games and a pool table available, should that be your thing.
Since our first visit we have been back several times and will continue to return. We have only daytime visitors so far, dogs are super welcome, so it suits us to walk the pup along the Medway and drop into the Drake for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat.
The pub suits all age groups. We have returned with several friends and also ageing family members. All have loved it.
I highly recommend the Drakes Cork and Cask and award a five star review based on the information above. You should definitely...
Read moreI've always been fond of this place. I know many people from all walks of life that feel comfortable and accepted here. So, when I went on a date last night, I suggested Drakes. Having a drinks on the comfy sofas was inviting. We go in, I go to the bar and my date goes to the toilet. When he comes out he is clearly very angry. It turns out the the barmaid asked someone to follow him in there because it would seem that being black and having your hands on your pockets makes you a drug dealer. I'm absolutely furious, not to mention embarrassed. I spoke so highly of this place and we get welcomed with this outrageous behaviour. She wasn't even sorry. Absolutely disgusting that in this day such racist stereotyping...
Read moreDrakes has always been one of the more popular places to drink in Maidstone. Back in the 90's after a couple in the Muggleton we would often go and check out Drakes before moving onto one Maidstone's many clubs. With a pool table, dart board and many board games (my brother turned down a game of Kaplunk) there's plenty inside to entertain - but out in the courtyard there's also a large marque now and also for a more intimate time they've opened some 'stables' that have a nice cosy feel. Those that move with the times - stay with the times I believe and its well worth checking out this above average, long established piece of Maidstones...
