Sophie's Tea Room — Restaurant in Maldon

A day trip with my family to Maldon. It was so refreshing to find this place. They had an excellent variety of hot and cold food and drinks. Prompt and friendly service. It was no effort when I customised my club sandwich order to include boiled egg. Our food arrived in timely fashion and was very reasonably priced. One minor issue was that the flush on the toilet did not function properly when we visited but everything else was spotlessly clean and tidy. The decor was fresh and they have a good corner position on the high street which provides lots of natural light. My sandwich was delicious. I'm informed by my wife and son that the breakfast bagels were equally tasty and my daughter enjoyed her ham sandwich (named on the menu as a "Babe" sandwich - fortunately my daughter hasn't seen...

Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by Sophie's Kitchen. The staff were very friendly and helpful so absolutely no issues there but I felt the food let them down.

I ordered a bacon sandwich (hard to get wrong) but the bread was incredibly stodgy and I ended up eating it as an item sandwich.

Also, their menu states American style waffles with bacon and maple syrup, however you get 1 waffle with a small drizzle of syrup.

As I said, you can't fault the service but a little more focus on the food would be great.

(As a side note, the cakes looked fantastic but we didn't...

The cafe is lovely inside and the service friendly, however the food was terrible, we both ordered the breakfast bagel which was a bagel, scrambled egg and crispy bacon. The egg was awfull powdered egg with no taste, the water from the eggs made the bagel soggy and the bacon not crispy, both of us left feeling sick for the rest the afternoon. We were on a work break and in a rush, the service was slow so we ate what we could and left. We should have complained but ran out of time having the que to pay.
