Is this one of Manchesterโs best vegan breakfasts? @elnecot was established by Chef Michael Clay around 5 years ago and itโs been on the go-to list for Manchester ever since. With a wide variety of dishes on each of their menus (Daytime, Evening, Brunch, Afters) as well as Sunday Roast, this one definitely ticks boxes for all kinds of food preferences.
Taste: ๐๐๐๐๐ค [really, really good]. We love this vegan take on the traditional shakshuka (although we added eggs for extra deliciousness). The falafels are made from fava bean and theyโre so soft they almost melt in your mouth. Complimented by the slow-cooked tomato ragu and a cashew cream sauce, the flavours were so good, we couldnโt leave any behind (see last image). Not to mention the perfect crunch of the Companio sourdough. We also ordered the Bacon & Egg sandwich which tasted great. The only thing to make it exceptional would have been some house-made sauce rather than ketchup but we might be asking for too much now? The coffee wasnโt as great though, super milky and not a lot of flavour.
Vibe: ๐๐๐๐๐ค [really, really good] Elnecot is neighbourhood bar and kitchen located in Ancoats and itโs every bit as cool as you would imagine. It has an industrial vibe with lots of concrete, exposed beams and brick but beautiful complimented by bright colours and some soft furnishings. We enjoyed breakfast by the large windows but we canโt wait to go back and try lunch or dinner too.
Instagramability: ๐๐๐๐๐ [exceptional] The falafels were presented beautifully. The type of presentation that made you want to eat it all as quickly as possible. They were served in a hot stone dish, keeping the meal warm the entire time. The bacon burger was simple but the brioche bun was toasted perfectly and the bacon and egg were both carefully placed (no off-centred eggs here).
Service: ๐๐๐๐๐ [exceptional] The service was really lovely with no complaints. We were given water and greeted with smiles.
Price/Value: ๐๐๐๐๐ค [really, really good]. The falafels were great value but we did think the bacon butty was a tiny bit pricey. The whole experience was great and weโve been recommending brunch here to everyone.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Elnecot, a gem of a restaurant nestled on Blossom Street in Ancoats, Manchester. From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the vibrant yet comfortable atmosphere that perfectly befits a Monday evening outing. With ample outdoor seating amidst a lively neighborhood filled with bars and eateries, Elnecot truly stands out for its exceptional culinary offerings and ambient charm.
The meal began with their signature Wagyu beef burger, which was nothing short of perfection. The patty was juicy and cooked to precision, nestled in a soft bun that complemented the rich flavors beautifully. Accompanying it were the beef dripping chips, which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the insideโan indulgent side that I couldn't get enough of.
One of the standout dishes was the Disco cabbage, cannellini, and salmoriglio-marinated pork belly. The vibrant mix of flavors and textures was a true testament to the innovative and modern British cuisine Elnecot is known for. The hearty coral lentil dahl with soy yolk and furikake was another highlight, offering a comforting yet sophisticated taste that resonated well with my palate.
For those who relish fresh, quality cheese, the British burrata paired with salt-baked beets, Honest Toil olive oil, sherry vinegar, and tamari seeds was an absolute delight. The creamy burrata harmoniously balanced with the earthiness of the beets, and the pesto added a delightful burst of flavor.
Lastly, no visit to Elnecot would be complete without their bread served with beef dripping. It was well-prepared and provided a warm, comforting start to the meal.
Overall, Elnecot impressed me with its thoughtful menu and exquisite food preparation. Whether you're a local or just visiting, make sure to stop by this extraordinary restaurant in Ancoatsโa true culinary haven that never fails to deliver a delightful...
ย ย ย Read moreGiven three stars based on my recent (and first) visit last Friday evening with my partner and a friend.
Booked a table for 3 people, taking advantage of the January food and drink discount offering of 30% off the total bill which was great.
I order the โconnageโ nibbles dish, followed by the potatoes with connage as an added extra. I did not partially enjoy the nibbles dish and felt that they tasted overly fried and that they were overcooked. The potato dish was very good however and prices fairly. My partner really enjoyed the baked prawns dish.
Once sat and ordered we were disappointed with the overall service from the staff on the evening. Service lacked attentiveness and personality with us feeling like we werenโt really welcome to be there on the evening. It took us a few attempts to make our attention known to staff to order another bottle of wine, whilst for around 45 minutes our empty plates remained on the table piled up, even after our second bottle of wine being brought to us. We did not โoutstay our welcomeโ - ordering the second bottle within an hour of our arrival, however we felt that this was this was the case with the odd look and the lack of service/ clearing away of the table so that we could enjoy the drinks without the remains of our food taking up the small space we had.
Upon requesting to pay, the server literally placed the bill on the table and took the payment. Conversation aside, eye contact was barely made and the server took the payment and walked away. We were not asked on any occasion throughout the evening how our food was, and with the trouble ordering another bottle of wine that we had, we felt that raising our issues on the evening wasnโt worth it, therefore we left.
Iโve been highly advised and recommended to return to try the roast dinners from multiple friends, however Iโm not sure Iโll be returning soon, which is a shame as a local to...
