The Glamorous is our favourite and go to Chinese restaurant in Manchester. It's located above the Wing Yip Chinese supermarket in the Ancotes area near the Northern Quarter. There's ample parking in the covered multistorey car park on the 1st floor level in front of the restaurant, with a number of disabled spaces, and also on the open air 2nd floor level above. We usually shop in the large Wing Yip Chinese Supermarket on the ground floor, which has its owned covered car park, when we visit the Glamorous. The decor in the very large 1st floor open Hong Kong style restaurant, which can probably seat about 300 people, is a bit dated, however, in my opinion it serves the best authentic Cantonese food in the North of England. There is a large fish tank, where live fish & lobsters are kept prior to being cooked for seafood dishes, next to the bar and a window looking into the kitchen with Hong Kong BBQ meats hanging on display. Male and female toilets are found at one side the back of the restaurant. My wife and I went for a quick pre-theatre meal this evening before going to see the Moulin Rouge musical. We had our favourite fillet steak on a sizzling platter with Cantonese sauce (the meat was so tender we cut it up using just the edge of the serving spoon and the sauce was light, tangy & not too sweet), chicken with green peppers & black bean sauce (tender pieces of chicken with crunchy al dente green peppers in a light black bean sauce with little fermented black bean providing an explosion of umami flavour in your mouth when you bit into them) and just one portion of boiled rice as it a very large portion enough for both of us. We had copious amounts of jasmine tea with our meal, with multiple free refills of our large teapot, and were given some complementary pieces of delicious sweet tangy oranges together with a complimentary bowl of a slightly sweet sago desert, after our main courses. In addition to going for traditional Cantonese food at the Glamorous we also go for their fantastic dim sum dishes, which are very popular with the large Chinese population in and around Manchester on weekends. Service may not be as polished as in other restaurants, not all the Chinese servers speak impeccable English, although the servers taking orders speak good English and are very helpful. However, we go there for the fantastic food at very affordable prices and always enjoy a...

They have picked the wrong victim. Today 4/4/2024 I bought some take away Chinese roast pork also known as char sui. I was looking forward to go there hoping I could get some authentic decent char sui but when I got home I put the pork on the chopping board all I can see was a large piece of fat on one side and when I turn it to the other side there wasn’t much lean meat on the other side either! This wasn’t just the reason why I was so disappointed, it was not made in a professional method, it looks like they just simply add some red colouring, some flavouring and syrup onto the fat piece of pork then put it in the oven. It was not grilled, it didn’t smell or taste like char sui. Basically I paid £14 for a piece of fat, after taken out all the fat I was left with less than 50% of meat, as you can see the less fatty bits in a silver bowl. the fat will have to go in the bin! Is pretty much selling fake goods. Even if it was done in a traditional style and in good quality, still is not worth £14 for the weight and size. They used as little time, effort and ingredients as possible to make this piece of fat and expect me to think this is authentic roast pork. I am a 60 year old Chinese woman, I’ve had a lot of char sui in my life time, I know how char sui should look, smell and taste like and I also know how some people make non-authentic Chinese roast pork which isn’t how it should be. If you can’t buy authentic decent roast pork from a Chinese restaurant where can you? I will file a complaint today and demand for a refund, this is not acceptable. I will get legal advice and take it to court if need be. I called the restaurant yesterday 5/4/24 and asked for a refund, at first they offered give me another piece of fatty pork I told them NO THANK YOU, I will never enter that restaurant ever again, it looks anything but glamorous. That place need some serious renovation! However, they had no choice but to refund me the £14, they took my card details over the phone, let’s hope they won’t store my card details and help themselves with it, that would be class as fraud, I will definitely contact Action Fraud! I would highly RECOMMEND to my enemies but NOT to family and friends. They have a...

I took my friend to this place for his birthday, he chose it not me. To be honest it was a plan B because the wait time for a table at Sakura was to long.

Within two minutes of sitting down i wanted to leave but my friend did not want to walk into town so we stayed because it was his birthday and i wanted him to be happy.

I last went to this restraunt approximately 12 years ago because i was shooting a chinese wedding there. The decor looked exactly the same today as it was then which was a cause of concern.

The staff were rude.

The menu came in 3 or 4 parts and was extremely confusing.

They did not supply us with a knife to eat with so i ate with a spoon and my hand. The food was grossly over priced and the plate it came on was not clean. I saw staff standing on chairs with their dirty shoes on in order to take photos of there customers and they were constantly passing us by with overfilled trolleys containing waste.

At the end of this challenging meal the waitres insited on a tip and being paid in cash but i resisted and paid with a card. WHY DID SHE INSIST ON BEING PAID IN CASH?

I was so keen to get out of this horrible place that i didnt reaIise had been over charged by approximately £10. As they did not provide me with a reciept i was unable to go back in and challenge them on this. I am not sure if i would have anyway because it was my friends birthday and i didnt want to make a fuss or embarrass him.

I paid £16.95 or £18.95 for a bowl of boiled rice and duck and it was mostly rice, very dry and had zero flavour.

If you care about food and the people that work hard to make it and serve it to you go somewhere else and do yourself and them a favour. This place was horrible I will never go there again. I dont care if it's a birthday a wedding or a funeral. Avoid it.

Minus zero...

Decor: The restaurant features a vintage-style decor, though some might consider it worn-out. Service: The service was average. One female staff member accidentally knocked over my chopsticks but quickly caught them with her gloved hand and placed them back in my bowl. I appreciated her quick reaction, but I couldn't help but question the hygiene practices. Food: Dry-fried Beef Ho Fun: The wok hei was there, which was great! However, apart from being overly salty, there was no other flavor to speak of. The rice noodles were chewy, and the bean sprouts were crunchy, but there was no hint of beef flavor. Fried Custard Buns: It was obvious that these were only fried on the oiled side, resulting in very uneven cooking. For such a simple fried dish, it was quite disappointing. Ginger and Scallion Beef Tripe: I understand that tripe needs proper cleaning and odor removal, but boiling it in water to cook isn’t the best approach. While the ginger and scallion flavor was strong, the texture of the tripe resembled vomit. Fresh Bamboo Roll: This was comparatively the best dish. It reminded me of British-style stuffed foods, and the seasoning was spot on. 👍 Steamed Siu Mai: I’m genuinely curious how they managed to steam it to the point of being completely tasteless. The texture was okay, but it lacked flavor entirely. Fried Dough Wrapped in Rice Noodles: The fried dough was overly greasy and soggy, while the rice noodle wrapping was rubbery and chewy. Other Notes: The restaurant has a covered parking lot, which is a plus, but beyond that, there’s nothing redeeming. This meal cost £50, and I honestly regret it.

They have a license to con!
