The best Vietnamese in Manchester!
Service: it’s not silver spoon but what do you expect, really? The staff are friendly and service is quick. No faults.
Atmosphere: great atmosphere, family business vibes, if the family is shouting you know the foods gonna be good.
Food: Just had my fourth visit and can confidently say everything I’ve tried so far has been fantastic.
Phở Đạc Biệt: So good, the broth is seasoned perfectly, still light not too salty. The beef cuttings are great, the chicken is tender but with an enjoyable firmness too. The meatball is homemade and great and the sausage slices are fantastic. Please enjoy with the bottle of chilli sauce and pickled garlic. Dont ruin with hoisin, I beg. Way better than Ca Phe Viet next door and much lighter and better seasoned than Pho Cue.
Bún Bò Huế: Finally, actual BBH in the UK. So often have restaurants just served BBH as Phở with some chilli on top. Not here! The BBH is perfect, well seasoned broth fragrant with lemongrass. You have the traditional pork knuckle hunk and the blood cake, which is perfectly soft and no odour. Great bowl! Personal preference would prefer spicier but you can add the chilli oil as desired.
Tai Hèo Gỏi / Pig ear salad: Haven’t seen this in the UK before! Pleasantly surprised, the pig ears are perfectly cooked. Soft, gentle chew and satisfying crunch with absolutely no odour. Vegetables are fresh and crisp. If I had one more I’d say it’s slightly too sweet for me, that’s all!
Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm: (not pictured) again, so pleasantly surprised to see this in the UK! Really really great, the tofu is perfectly fried and juicy, the pork slice is tender, spring roll was perfectly crispy and tasted great and the mắm tôm dipping sauce is the perfect mix of funky, sweet, sour and spicy. So good!
If you only have one choice of Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester, it should be Que Huong Viet. Ca Phe Viet next door seems to be the more popular option, though I’m unsure why as everything they do QHV does much better at slightly cheaper prices. And way better than the completely overrated and...
Read moreThis place is, by far, the best Vietnamese restaurant in Manchester, and perhaps in the UK too. I ordered the Hue style noodle to take away, and even before tasting it, I knew it'd be good: the noodle itself, the broth and the herbs were all packed separately, so that the heat won't overcook the delicate herbs (a sign that the restaurant care about how you enjoy their food to make sure it can be at its best, rather than simply lobbing things together). It was very good value for money, not just in terms of quantity, but the variety of ingredients included as well. Where most Vietnamese restaurants fail to be authentic is the use of few ingredients, either out of stinginess or laziness. This place is a rare difference: the noodle dish I ordered had 4 different types of meat (beef, pork, meatballs and Vietnamese ham). The beef was from a good cut (suitable for this type of soup) and sliced thinly for tenderness. They were also generous with the herbs (again, unlike most places I've been to). Best of all is the right ratio of broth and noodle. They give you a full box of broth, which matches the amount of noodle, meat and veg - this is super important because as any noodle fan knows, it's the broth that makes or breaks the noodle, and not having enough broth for the noodle is not just annoying. It ruins the whole thing. This is the case with many Vietnamese restaurants, for example, 'Cafe Viet', the one right next to this one. Finally, as mentioned in some of the comments here, their staff are lovely! especially the old gentleman who is probably the chef. He's so friendly and attentive - again, rather different from Cafe Viet next door whose staff aren't terribly attentive, possibly because of how busy they are? (after the last time when I had to wait there for 40 mins for a takeaway order, I probably won't come back to Cafe Viet...). If you like Vietnamese food and haven't tried this place, do give it a try! They deserve to be successful for their efforts to prioritise authenticity and good quality over laziness...
Read moreI’ve been quite a few times in the last six months because I genuinely enjoy the food here however every time the cleanliness of the place has been questionable. This time we arrived and were seated on a dirty table, they had no intentions to clean it and placed our tea onto the table. We asked for it to be cleaned and the server pushed it off to another server and he brought over another pot of tea instead, so we used hand gestures to ask for the table to be cleaned. He brought over a dirty towel and wiped it down… The menus are so old and broken, the tea cups were still wet and I doubt they’ve washed the tea pot since the last customer used it. My pho tasted nice however the noodles had been changed to the thin ones and portion size have gone smaller. I think this place serves tasty and authentic pho however the hygiene of this place needs IMMEDIATE attention from the owners to improve. Their one star hygiene rating is alarming and it’s concerning how it was issued almost 1.5 years ago and no health and safety officer has come since to check on & advise on...
