Terrific burger in a restaurant with the most perfectly-executed Classic American Diner theme that I've ever been in -- and I'm including those in America! Checkerboard floor, Formica tables. red & white leatherette booths, classic American pop and golden-age rock for ambiance, and bunches of charming Americana and pop-art flair on the walls... It's probably possible for a joint to do more with the theme, but nothing here needs to be done better.
Somehow Grand Daddy's hasn't made any of the Best Burger in Manchester lists that I've found, but it definitely deserves to. The double I ordered came on a golden brioche and dripped burger sauce and American cheese down onto the paper as soon as I picked it up. The patties were a little dense so I might ask for medium rare next next time but they'd been lovingly dusted with salt and pepper and managed to provide the key flavour of the burger, the way the meat is supposed to. The sauce wasn't too tangy, the lettuce didn't make the burger impossible to hold and the height of the burger made it look impressive without requiring me to unhinge my jaw.
The Peanut Butter shake was also superb and satisfying enough that I'm glad I didn't spend the extra £2 on the larger Monster Size.
My companion's chicken burger was top-notch as well; two thin, moist breaded cutlets with great flavour.
The friendly owner Ali was attentive and proudly gave us a run-down of how he opened the place by sending his son and daughter on a 10-day trip to NYC to research burger joints and diners so they could come back to decorate the place and build the menu from scratch. He's so proud of them and I hope the feeling is mutual because Ali deserves all the success in the world. If you're in Manchester make this your next stop...
Read moreAnother place I visited due to someone's recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. Upon entrance, you can see the American theme that they've tried to show off here. Staff were fantastic and it was a really pleasant atmosphere. The decor consists mostly of American TV & film related themes.
The menu was pun central, loads of items that had been named from famous films and it was easy to decipher what was being offered unlike some places where they write something funky in Italian and all you get is a hash brown. I opted for the 'Grand Daddy's Double Burger' which consisted mainly of 2 6oz beef patties and all the other relevant condiments that go with this burger. The food was delivered quicker than expected and the presentation was excellent to say the least. The buns supported the patties, didn't fall apart like most of your dreams. The meat was well cooked and succulent. I would definitely recommend trying the House mayo which was delicious. Portion size was above satisfactory and both the sweet potato & chilli fries were good. I was assured by the owner that everything was handmade (yes, handmade, not footmade) to maintain the quality and freshness. He even offered to charge my phone when it died mid-snapchat. What a guy. I've been told that it has drastically improved in the last few months due to a huge staff overhaul so definitely check it out even if you've been before. s and g, the hmayo sauce . Read moreI discovered this place for myself this September when I moved to Manchester. From my first visit I knew I’d come back. There are many reasons why I think this place deserves its 5 stars Food and drinks quality. All burgers have a nice crispy bun, very juicy meat and fresh veggies. Fries are always crispy and tasty. Milkshakes is a different story as well - they are all amazing! Portions. As much as I tried I never could finish a burger here just because it’s huge! Portion of fries is enough to share between 2 people. Also you can get a bottomless drink Customer value. This place has a very good loyalty scheme - cards where u get stamps for every transaction and on 6th visit you get a free milkshake and on 9th a free meal. I’m couple stamps away from 9th one Also service is very quick as well and all staff is friendly and nice. When we first came, we were given £5 off vouchers. Place atmosphere. The vibe is very relaxing and calm here. it’s very clean as well and food is served nicely in wooden trays.
Few suggestions that can improve this place: Wipes would be great or elastic gloves like nurses have to eat burgers.
The only thing is that this place is a bit hidden from the main road so you have to know it to be able to find it.
Overall, great...
