Watch out if you have allergies!!! Don't forget your medication!!!
Very cold greeting. Server came to take order when my husband went to the bathroom.. awkward. I ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. Only 1 starter came. Had to reorder the other starter. Waitress made me believe I forgot to order the other one. Made it very awkward.l for nothing.
All the food came covered in raw carrots sprinkles "decorations" which was not mentioned in the menu. I am highly allergic to carrots.
We asked to return my main dish. My husband ate all the starters ..
We did not see the carrot sprinkles at first. I had to take a bite and some medecine. Unfortunately I did not think carrots would be sprinkled over my food.
When asked to return the dish and explaining the allergy, the waitress looked confused and annoyed.
Manager (?) came with new dish asking why we returned it. Poor communication between staff ?
We had to explain again politely that I am very allergic to carrots. Server replied "well it's a Mediterranean restaurant, what do you expect? Do you not like carrots or are you really allergic to them?"
My husband had to explain again that it's a very strong/deadly allergy for me. He also had to debate that Mediterranean food is not sprinkled with carrots. (We are visiting Manchester from the south of France, we don't drench our lamb cutlets in heavy cream and do not sprinkle carrots over them in the south of France).
They accepted to make the food again. The meat was cooked well done when ordered medium rare.
For the price we paid, I find the quality and service level to be very behind.
The overall mood between waiters was also weird. Waiters were slow/uninterested and almost felt like they were not happy to be there.
Big miss for us unfortunately. Would not recommend it if you are looking for a nice dining...
Read moreBooked a table for 2:30pm back on the 20th July for a delightful lunch here at PUPA, and wow, what an experience we had.
The restaurant itself doesn’t have much seating, with there only being 5-6 tables with about 4 stools, so i would suggest you book ahead of time.
As for the interior design, you’re most certainly made to feel like you’re in the Mediterranean, which is the entire point of the decor, i assume.
Sat on the table nearest to the bar, with the lovely server, for whom i can only apologise for forgetting their name, took our order. I ordered their Greek salad for a starter and the brochette de poulet for my main.
15 or so minutes after we placed our order, it soon arrived. The smell of that grilled goodness on that plate, it was hard for it not to play with your appetite by its potency.
As for the flavour of the dish? Damn, it was good. The succulence of the chicken and the grilled undertone it carried with it, wow. The Greek salad and the little bits on the plate were a great addition, but the main star of the show was the chicken, easily.
The hospitality was fantastic, in addition to the food being fabulous. Our server couldn’t have done enough for us, and i’m so sorry i forgot her name, but she was spectacular, well done, honestly.
How would i rate my experience at PUPA? Excellent! Some of the best Mediterranean oriented food i’ve quite possibly ever had. And the service I couldn’t rate any higher than a 10. As for the price, it is expensive for what it is, but you’re paying for the quality and the general experience at the end of the day, and i think it’s worth paying for. 5/5 all...
Read moreI really hate to do this, because our meals at Pupa have been really great, but we're locals and I have recently been so let down by the attitude of the owners. We live literally around the corner. We have been here several times: we're probably Pupa's main demographic. We regularly walk past the restaurant down the main road whilst we walk our dog. My husband was walking past the other day with our dog, and one of the staff (potentially an owner?) came out and told us to stop our dog urinating on their front door. What's baffling is that she's never done this. Not once. She wasn't doing it when he spoke to my husband, and hasn't ever as far as we're concerned. She's a dog that lives in the city centre: we have plenty of other spaces for her to relieve herself and wouldn't even ENCOURAGE it, let alone let it happen. My husband said this, and the person again accused him of letting her wee at the door. I repeat, this hasn't ever happened. Safe to say it's really left a bad taste in our mouths. We're locals, probably the prime demographic (we spend money on food near us and enjoy spending time locally). This has seriously made us not want to come back and even though we've recommended this place before, we won't be. Kindness goes a long, long way. Please consider this when speaking to your potential customers, particularly ones who are SO local to you. Please do not jump to conclusions. I understand you may be frustrated, but you can't blame everyone who walks past you. I doubt we'll be coming back in the...
