Visited here today. Waited outside and followed Covid19 rules. We asked the nice young lady who approached us if it was possible to have a table inside. It was a windy day and both of my kids were fed up of it and wanted to get out of it for a while. Our intention was to have a few drinks only as we had had a light lunch on St Michael's Mount. At no point we're we asked if we were eating or just drinking. We were led to a table for four and shortly after a "gentleman" appeared who enquired if we wanted drinks, we said yes but also could we have a portion of chips with them. The gentleman (a bald headed guy wearing specs, Martin Britten I believe) grumbled something about us just ordering chips. We did respond with the fact that no one had made it clear that indoors was only for people eating. Not just drinking. To which the gentleman responded, in a very rude attitude, "I'm not going to argue with you". My response was "there is nothing to argue over as you should make it clear to potential customers before the enter" in return I was greeted with more dismissive, rude comments. I will certainly be warning all of my friends and colleagues who visit the area frequently to avoid this place like the plague. You would think that during such a tough economic climate any business would be welcome, I guess not at this place. For all the gentleman knew we were going to order a couple of bottles of champagne, which would be more than the cost of most people's meals who were currently sitting inside. Never mind. This "business" has now probably lost the custom of an additional 30-40 people because of how...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLovely small little pub š» we booked to eat more than once when staying in a close by village for a week. The staff were more than welcoming and friendly, it was our dogs birthday and one of the staff members actually gifted him a can of 'proper dog' beer which was very kind. They had just rolled out a new menu and it was busy so on the first night we were explained there was a 20+ minute wait on food before we ordered which was absolutely fine for us, some of the other customers weren't so understanding and a little rude to staff who dealt with the moans and criticism very well. The food was fabulous, portion sizes were absolutely brilliant, all home cooked and with care and attention. Between us and the 3 times we ate, I think we tried most starters and mains on the menu. Never once were we disappointed, from ham, egg and chips to lamb shanks or mussels the meals were all sublime and fairly priced.
Only reason for knocking down a star is really the inside eating area is so small and not all that comfy or personal... Our chairs were basically touching the chairs of those behind us and it made it difficult for staff to get through or even just being careful when getting up from the table yourself not to crash with the person behind you. Unfortunately due to the small area I don't know what could be done. With this in mind definitely book, if you're wanting an inside table. We went in winter and the rain so this was essential, there is an outside beer garden area where I'm sure more could sit in finer and warmer weather.
Definitely recommend and thanks for a great...
Read moreCalled in on a cold windy lunchtime for a quick sandwich and shared bowl of chips with my husband. Middle of February but half term so lots of people , however got a table inside. Scanned a short lunch menu for sandwiches and was shocked to see the prices cheapest was £12. We ordered 2 BLT and a bowl of chips as we were hungry and I thought it must be good for that price Very disappointed 2 slices of cheap tomato 2 lettuce leaves and 2 slices of smoked bacon precariously balanced in 2 slices of the driest stale tasting foccacia bread ever. It was so thin sliced and dry it was impossible to pick up. Even adding mayo didnt help. Chips were nice though. I live in St. Ives and am used to expensive food but at least you get offered nice choices of bread. We looked at other menus in town and saw all of them do not cater for people just wanting a snack and a pint lunchtimes. Marazion used to be one of my favourite places to visit out of season , but I am not prepared to spend £35 for 2 sandwiches and a bowl of chips and a coffee Out of towners you're welcome to the place and be mug enough to pay...
