Went as a party of two with my cousin. Made a reservation half an hour before. Greeted and sat down promptly. Ordered chicken in black bean sauce extra spicy, battered garlic and onion prawns, prawns wontons, salt and chilli chips, egg fried rice and a vegetable vermicelli. Food came out in 10-15 minutes. Quality of food is 3/5. No extra spice to the chicken. The most negative thing about this place is the portion sizes. Very conservative and served on oval China dishes which are an attempt to both present well and proffer restricted portions. It has been like this both times I have visited. Food was pleasant enough but nothing out of this world. Upon finishing we were about one of three tables left in the establishment ten minutes before closing time. We were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them with the one waitress giving sharp looks towards our bowls and plates as she was so eager to collect and get us going. This was majorly obvious. Upon paying we sat for a minute. Another couple ordered a tea and coffee as a dessert and I enquired about a tea for us too. The man was very rude about this and obviously did not want us to say. He leered over his glasses at the proposal and told us we've already paid. I said I don't mind paying again. He was silent and I asked is it because you're closing and he said yes. No interest in actually waiting until his customers are fully satisfied. It is my strong belief that you should never mix dining with negativity but this was the reality of conclusion of the meal. The woman then removed the table cloth instantly and forcefully moved out drinking glasses too so as to hurry us out.
Small portions, staff that want your money and then to see the back of you as soon as possible and AVERAGE food. Much better...
Read moreFirst time dining here. Ordered Chicken Yuk Sung, Chicken Chow Mein and a Special King Prawn egg fried rice. Yuk was nice and flavoursome. Chow mein was ok but the Special King Prawn Fried rice was terrible (see attached picture).
Now, I wasn’t expecting it to be Michelin star dish but considering it had the word ‘Special’ in the title, I was expecting maybe some veg and the prawns to be possibly marinated in something. Instead, we got a normal egg fried rice with a few pieces of prawns thrown in. I paid £9 for it! I could have done a better job at home, using a recipe from google or YouTube. Even Uncle Roger would be disappointed!
What was very surprising was when our order was taken, all the food came out within 5 minutes. Definitely not freshly made.
I should have gone with my gut instinct and made the trip to Chung Ying Garden in the city centre. The only really good thing about this place was the ice cold pint...
Read moreWent here for a meal on my birthday and was not disappointed. The staff were great very attentive and helpful. We went for the set menu with a couple of additional items and they were quite happy to alter things to suit individually tastes. The food itself was spot on, one of the nicest Chinese meals I have had for a very long time. Would suggest that you don't have a snack before you go, there was more than enough food for four of us and we even brought some of the duck home with us. Drinks prices were, maybe slightly higher than pub prices but certainly not the rip off prices you get in some places. Restaurant itself and the toilets were absolutely spotless. If you are put off by the view from outside (it is right on the main road) don't be. It's what I would refer to without criticising to be a old fashioned Chinese restaurant, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food what more do you want for a...
