I visited The Thatched Inn on Saturday 23 April 2022 in the evening, a weekend during the Easter school holidays. We were staying just down the road at the Southdown Way Camping & Caravan Park. I was with three other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place.

I parked in the pub car park - parking was easy.

The restaurant comprises of one large sized main dining area with plenty of tables with full table service.

The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I enjoyed the beefburger with cheese, bacon and onion rings for my main course with a side of cheesy garlic bread and the most amazing baked strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake with whippy ice cream. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted really good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food was very good value for money, I paid just under £30 for three courses and drinks. The portions are incredibly generous and I ate too much!

Overall I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely...

First time of visiting the new revamped pub. Fantastic update on the decoration and outside area, however the food and drink is extremely overpriced. £13.50 for a cheeseboard. This once welcoming pub now serves food more in keeping with a restaurant you would find in Brighton or Hove. The new Manager appears stressed and openly questioned his staff in front of the restaurant about their job roles. Our nibbles consisted of dry focaccia with a tiny finger dip bowl of balsamic vinegar and olive oil for a ridiculously overpriced amount of £7.00 and our mains of the Butchers Block and chicken were just about acceptable although the pie of the day which I initially ordered was not available. When asked whether we wanted a dessert my partner had the blueberry and apple crumble which had no blueberries in it, and a huge amount of crumble. Finally when I asked for a decaf coffee, I was told they had no decaf of any drink and they had run out yesterday. Although the staff did ask us if we were happy with the food, before we had a chance to reply the waitress was gone. Really disappointing. You really need to up your game to retain the old loyal...

Just back from a visit to the newly refurbished Thatched Inn, and was delighted to see a country pub, which always had great potential, finally start to live up to it! Great food - my wife and I had a selection of lovely starters and then excellent burgers and my kids had some lovely pasta (freshly cooked tomato sauce was delicious, why do so many places not make proper food for kids’ menus?!). Nice upgrade on the drinks also, with a good wine list and modernised beer selection. There has clearly been an extensive renovation - gone is the dingy decor and tired furnishings, replaced with a far brighter interior and finally a decent beer garden! Good service also. Some minor teething problems as the new team beds in but all done with a smile and it’s great to see the new management so keen to get to know the village.

All in all a very welcome investment and we’ll be back for sure. It’s a shame to see some negative reviews - I guess some people just don’t like change, but for me the departure from a the overly lengthy menu to focus on freshly cooked food is a massive upgrade! Good luck to...

Dog friendly!!! This place came up on our dog friendly restaurant search so looked beautiful on the pictures especially the 1 of it snowing!! So we came to check it out it is really cosy!! Wished the fire place was lit that would definitely kick out some heat. Service was very slow we got seated no menus and nobody came over so my partner had to go to the bar to order drinks and to ask if we need to order at the bar. So we got our menus then was waiting ages again but all the staff were laughing and joking about behind the bar which is a shame. But when we got a guy finally come serve us he was actually amazing even got our dogs some water without even having to ask for it he was so lovely. Food is actually all your home comforts!! The lasagne was huge I definitely could of fed 2 people with it lol. And the steak my partner said was 1 of the best steaks he had had. So apart from the service at the beginning we did have a great time nice food and was satisfied when we left Thank you

I've not been to the Thatched Inn for a while, but having been there many times as a Hassocks "local", I was interested to see what the new owners had done with the pub. I was very pleasantly surprised. Gone was the popular expansive menu for which the "Thatch" was renowned, to be replaced by a smaller but, to my view, a much higher quality menu. The food I had was exquisite and quickly served up by pleasant and attentive staff. I would heartily recommend this as a dining experience. In addition, the external areas are much more amenable for a quick drink (or two)...

We popped in for a late Sunday lunch and were so glad we did. The staff were warm and welcoming, even making a fuss of our dog 🐺, which was such a lovely touch. Service was friendly and efficient, and they thoughtfully checked whether we’d like our butternut squash Wellington prepared vegetarian or vegan. The portions were spot-on, and every dish was cooked to perfection. My highlight was the Chana Masala burger – packed with flavour, perfectly spiced, and beautifully complemented by the chutney. A wonderful meal from start to finish.
