The history of this Tearoom/ Cafe is like no other. It has EXTRAORDINARY real life history of the tearoom from an occupant that was born in the late 1500s and lived there in the 1600s and travelled to America. His hands would have touched parts of that tearoom.
The current owners of the tearoom do extremely well to display the history of the building , by having pictures and written history on the walls, tables and exterior of the building. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this about this specific tearoom and it is the only reason I go to Dorking which is many miles from where I live.
The tearoom always serves in dainty fine bone China sourced from second hand shops which is always an AMAZING experience.
The tearoom serves a complimentary piece of small ginger cake for every guest which is a beautiful kind gesture.
Sadly their cakes aren’t up to scratch and something about the cake is missing , either eggs or sugar or something but the cakes just don’t taste right and are quite bland. Maybe it’s baking powder that’s missing.
Also the scone wasn’t a homemade scone today and was definitely either old or shop bought. I’ve been to hundreds of tearooms in the country and I know what a homemade scone looks like and tastes like, saying that there was a generous amount of clotted cream and jam and the staff are very attentive and warm.
It gets very busy in there so turn up early or book in advance.
Will most definitely be returning again very soon for a nice brekkie.
I do not like saying anything negative about small businesses and I know how hard the husband and wife work at this tearoom but I just needed to but I must comment the positives to this wonderful tearoom outweighs any negatives.
The history of where this tearoom is situated is SIMPLY EXTRAORDINARY!!!
William Mullins ,via his daughter Priscilla who survived after the voyage to America and had many children of her own, is said to have around 400 direct descendants living in the USA 🇺🇸. He is an ancestor to many and originated from Dorking and this tearoom was once his home !...

Zero stars would be more than it deserves. I took my parents from the US here because of its historical significance hoping for something of quality and instead we had the following:
Food crumbs in our juices
We placed our order and then 15 minutes later they came to tell us they ran out of ingredients for the food we originally ordered.
We ordered what they did have. A ham and cheddar panini, a mozzarella tomato and basil panini and a bacon and cheddar panini.
The ham and bacon were disgusting. The bread was so bland and basic.
The salad (if you can even call it that) was a pinch of lettuce leaves only with salad sauce. Although one our three plates had one quarter piece of a tomato.
The mozzarella piece was about 3 inches long on a 8 inch panini, cold in the middle.
Oh and you get about 5 crisps from a bag of crisps that have been clearly left open all day.
A total joke of a place. Clearly something nobody takes pride in. A place owned by someone who has more money then sense. They created a restaurant and let teenagers run the place.
Thumbs up for suckering me into this place. Never...
Read moreVery nice place when visited Dorking. Tea and food and ambiance very good. Really happy visit even though overcharged but I decided to let it go. Unknown to me my partner had challenged it but bill was not changed. We only ordered three things. I got tea and separate pannini and she got tea n scone. Should come to £14.65 but charged £17.45. It was a simple add up when i checked it with their menu. Not sure why when my partner challenged it that the error could not be seen. Could not be bothered with refunding as I paid with card. So decided to let them have a 'tip'. Other than that excellent place which is why I decided to still give 4 stars. Seems lovely family run place but they should be more careful...
