I’m guessing they have new owners?
My family and I have been coming here for years and loved it. Today my partner and I came, a carvery for me (the 2 course deal) and he ordered the curry of the day (a lamb madras)
30-35 minutes after ordering my boyfriends madras still hadn’t arrived, we asked about it and the waiter (possibly landlord) apologied then went away and came back with it... saying the chefs hadn’t told each other about it. Anyway, he started eating it and because it had been sat there for so long, the curry was warm and he tore parts his poppadum. It wasn’t spicy at all and had no flavours to it. We never mentioned it to the waiter when he came back as it was just one of those things.
I then went to the bar and gave in my ticket for my pudding. Another 20 mins went so I went back up and asked, he then went into the kicthen to chase up. 5 minutes later he came and told us they had run out but no one had told him... Those things happen I suppose. So he then offered me a free drink, happy days! I asked for another vodka lemonade, then said could I please have a crumble as my chosen pudding was unavailable.
He came back to the table and said no I could either have my pudding OR the drink.. So after apologising by offering a free drink as most pubs do, then changed it to either that or a pudding I have already paid for!!
I told them no I don’t want either, the whole experience was ridiculous. I don’t mind accidents or misunderstandings as it happens everywhere. And if people are starting new of course things happen. But this was ridicolous. A 30 mins late cold tasteless meal, 20 mins for a pudding that wasn’t even there and leaving out of pocket as the kind gesture wasn’t a gesture at all!
Definatley won’t be back, which is a total shame as we have loved this...
Read moreWhilst conducting some work in the area, I asked politely if could use the car park whilst visiting a nearby address - promising to bring my colleague in afterwards to get a drink.
There was an unusual exchange in which I was given permission but in the next breath laughed at and accused of evening a liar - telling me “I know you won’t come back”. I said if it’s such a big deal I’ll find somewhere else to leave my car for an hour as I don’t like to be judged as dishonest.
As it happened, my colleague and I decided we wanted lunch and several drinks - but of course we went elsewhere, to the Housemartin pub down the road. Here they were friendly and served nice food.
Just goes to show - be careful who and how you...
Read moreLovely welcoming staff, and a good three meat carvery with a decent selection of veg, served by the chef behind screens. They ran out of sausage for one of our party but came over with freshly cooked replacements after a few minutes and made sure she didn't miss out. Some veg a little overcooked but far from terrible. Excellent thick gravy, plus cranberry, apple, horseradish and mint sauce on hand. Chicken strips, chips and beans for the boy was a good portion, crispy and tasty. They made sure we were all happy, had decent social distancing in place and a one-way system but the staff did not wear PPE. Would...
