Caffrello Vietnam House — Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

**Edit: Visited Caffrello for a 2nd time. (December 2023) Food is still delicious, I think all of the mains are good no matter what you order, although a lot do sound the same, I don't think they are, so the menu could do with changing descriptions slightly. Think prices have gone up since I first visited in March 2023, but still reasonable. As long as they can work on the service as this really lets the place down. We ordered starters and Mains, and we're asked if we wanted prawn crackers and sweet chilli dip for £4.50 (bit pricey for something that most places offer free) but we were hungry so said yes thinking it would be something to snack on whilst we wait for the food. Almost ONE HOUR later and we still had nothing not even the prawn crackers, and all staff seemed to have disappeared, lots of people waiting around, I think for takeaway and delivery. Finally it came with no explanation or apologies, we wanted to potentially order more so I did mention to the staff I was worried if I ordered more it might take another hour but they said it should be ok and again no explanation why it took so long, they didn't acknowledge it at all. As I said before all food was delicious so I can't complain about that, when paying at the till I was asked if everything was ok and I said yes it was all delicious but mentioned about it taking so long, she said. 'Yeh We've been busy tonight with takeout orders' but still no apology. Frustrating, I just wish they could focus more on people eating in the restaurant than serving the Deliveroo, Just Eat and so on. It wasn't even busy in the restaurant that night and we were there for a long time just sitting around waiting. I hope the owner takes this on board and makes some changes otherwise this restaurant may fail.

March 2023- Very good value. I absolutely love the spring rolls but found some of the starters a bit too deep fried. Found it different to some other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to but the owner told me that'secause this is Northern Vietnamese food whereas I think I've had mainly southern. Rude and condescending server and tiny childrens portions and shocked to then discover the Food Hygiene rating from May 2022 was only a 1 star!!! I ordered s starter of Wok Fried Greens which were described as “Tenderstem broccoli and Chinese leaf” and when I queried what I received, which was 80% mushrooms, bean sprouts, carrots and white cabbage, and asked where the broccoli was he pointed out a tiny piece of broccoli that was 1/2 size of my small fingernail. There were 3 of these that I could then uncover. Previously when I had ordered this dish it was COMPLETELY different. The server refused to admit there was an error or that he was wrong and was very loud in arguing with me. So much so that the tables around me went completely silent! BTW I wasn’t asking for a discount or freebie, I was merely querying the dish I received. Then the childrens portions main coursecame. They were meant to be the same as the adult versions but smaller in size. The item was “ Egg fried rice with stir fried beef & vegetables and sprinkle of fried onions to give extra crunch‘ and the photo is what we received (with a few bites eaten) There were no crispy onions and hardly any beef and vegetables.
