Newark Town Lock — Attraction in Newark and Sherwood

All the young children in our family will watch the boats go through the lock, it is a perfect example of a mechanical lock. Standing here you get a sense, through the old buildings what it was like when the waterways transported goods. Maybe one day to ease congestion on our roads, we may go back to transporting goods & commute by water, could not think of a more relaxing way to go to work. Adjacent to the lock is a small sensory garden maintained by lovely volunteers of the Canal Trust, very knowledgeable on the canal & gardening. Really nice area of Newark, away from the hustle and bustle of the traffic. Park up in any of the nearby car parks, close to the bridge and stroll along the Riverside pathway, down to the lock gates and watch the boats passing through the lock.
