Its a real shame because it's a nice looking place and the staff we met were lovely but The Hop Pole has a couple of real problems which makes it unusable for most business travelers and a lot of others too.||||For starters the bar and restaurant won't take card payment, as most business travelers we get a allowance for food and drink, but we are only aloud to pay on card as we cant withdraw cash. So you would think you can charge food and drink to your room and then pay on card when leaving, well you can't. This means after a long day you can't eat and drink at the hotel you are staying in. How stupid is that! I was traveling with a colleague so we had to leave the hotel and go to a restaurant in the same village ( We went to Bella Vita which was fantastic ) where we spent £84 on two meals and a few drinks. Surely the owners of the hotel understands the amount of money they must be losing every day! The restaurant we ate said they get a lot of business from people been unable to pay at the hotel so good for them i guess. ||||My second issue with the hotel refers to their digital detox sanctions that are in place. This is just backwards thinking. This means i had to go to my room to finish my work and as the wifi was none existent in my room I had to walk up the road to find 4G signal to facetime my kids to say goodnight. Phones tablets and laptops aren't evil and are a large part of most peoples work and social lifes making this rule not only counter productive but also mean. I don't agree with fox hunting but the hotel has decapitated fox heads everywhere yet i don't comment on their life choices but I can't use a mobile phone to read the news whilst i drink a pint that I can't pay for because i can't pay on card. ||||There are also no TVs in the rooms so you cant watch television or drink a pint or eat as well as not been able to send a email or catch up on the news. By this point i don't care about how comfortable the bed is or if the shower is hot because The Hop Pole is unusable to me.||||Never again||||As an after thought say 10 business travelers a week have the same problems as me that would be approximately £400 a week the hotel ios losing behind the bar! that's over...

Read moreMet some friends here, who had stayed over night, for Sunday lunch. The Hotel has been renovated to a high standard and looks beautiful and friends said the rooms were magnificent but I'm afraid that the finer details and the food were a big let down. We had a pre lunch drink in the outside courtyard and this had obviously not been cleaned from the night before. The ashtrays were dirty and full of water as it had been raining over night. There were empty crisp and nut packets on the floor and a menu had been left out over night and was wet through. We asked for a private dining room as there were 8 of us, the table was set wrong, the soup spoons were on the wrong side and the knifes were facing the wrong way (minor details I know but these all add to the well being of the meal). The food came and it was cold and the meat tough, one of us had fish and this had obviously been pre-cooked and stood, it didn't look or taste appetising. We went in to the courtyard for coffee, this took ages to arrive as, we were informed, the coffee came out of a machine that only made 2 cups at a time! The coffee was terrible to say the least. All in all the ambience was spoilt and we will not...
