It is a nice and pleasant place to be, lots of historical railway memorabilia and some good entertainment. I have performed as part of the āOld Whistle Testā event in the function room, which was enjoyable and I do hope to perform at again sometime š. The only thing I am not pleased about however is the ācard onlyā payments, the reason for which is not explained. I and many others do not like using card to make small payments such as for individual drinks. It put me off buying drinks when I was last there, so please consider giving people the option as I am not convinced that forcing it on them is fair. Cash is still legal tender after all and I, for one, strive to keep it in society. The pandemic is no excuse now the restrictions are lifting, and neither is fewer ATM machines, as either way you could still give people the option to pay in cash if they wish. I am happy to attend events again but I would be reluctant to purchase a drink unless I have the option to pay with cash as I will only pay with card if I choose and not because Iām told I have to. Iām not trying to be stubborn, I just think many customers would appreciate a bit more freedom of how to pay as there is no real need to restrict it. Please take on board this feedback and you might get another star...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was asked to leave this Christmas Eve because apparently I smelled like the devils lettuce! I was not in possession or had been anywhere near the stuff that evening! Someone else in the courtyard clearly had and I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time for the landlady to think it was me. When I told her that it was not me I was met with instant agression and no way to rectify the issue! I told her she could search me and smell me again, but I was told she couldnāt do that! She said she had been following me for ages (HELLA CREEPY) and with no other option I was forced to leave the pub which I have frequented many times over the years as I grew up round here, and which two of my good friends currently work at. This has RUINED my Christmas Eve and forced me to leave my friends who I havenāt seen for ages! This is not the first time me and my family have had a bad experience at this pub, DO NOT GO THERE! There are many other pubs in southwell which I would recommend more as they treat their guests like human beings and not like cattle to be corralled! Sincerely a friendly guy who just wanted to enjoy a pint with his mates after working on Christmas Eve! Merry...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe only stopped for a drink but the food looked amazing. They had pub bar Snacks. If your really into trains and history, it's a place worth visiting. I went with the hubby and brother in law who likes trains and the history that comes with them. The inside of the pub was like you stepped back in time to when you used to get your tickets and sit in the waiting room for the train to arrive. The ticket office hole is still there. They had a actual railway track, (a piece of it) in the pub grounds along with bits of information about the area. It had also the old vintage signage which advertised chocolate, tea etc. Toilets are clean. The pub allows dogs in, so if your OK with that, then it's fine. We met a lively lovely little dog who was friendly, and very inquisitive. Will go again and try...
