Favourite restaurant in the North East and would definitely recommend to anyone. The Earl is a quirky bar restaurant, nestled on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre, not far from the iconic St James’ Park. A hidden gem in a city filled with restaurant chains, this independently owned eatery has something for everyone. Vegan, vegetarian and Gluten free with helpful staff who will check everything with the chef for you. Their Sunday lunch is the best in the city (roast lamb or feather blade of beef are both amazing) Our most recent visit was a Friday evening and the meals were fish tacos, cauliflower steak with celeriac purée to start, chicken skewers with rice, lamb skewers with cous cous and flat bread (the menu names are much better than my descriptions) followed by a warm gluten free chocolate brownie served with salted caramel ice cream, raspberry coulie and berries. Pictures don’t do it justice. Evening meal prices were: £20 for 2 courses £23 for 3 courses Lunchtime is cheaper. (Our other guests with us also ate food and thoroughly enjoyed their meals, but it’s a bit rude to photograph your guests food) If you’re in Newcastle, your missing out if you don’t try The Earl!

It was my husbands birthday so I went online and seen reviews, so decided to go rang up to book, food was amazing friendly staff, then I got bill at end, witch they had put extra charges on. I asked them to clarify this , which they did and it was wrong, then I realised it was wrong. I payed for it. My husband got a 2 course for £20 and I got a three course for £23 then there was an extra charge of £5 for my beef and an extra charge of £5 for my prawns so watch out for the hidden air charges your not just paying for a 3 or two course meal this left a bitter taste prices should be more clear. Sorry I won’t return because of this…. Don’t mind paying for good food but I felt as if your charges where hidden on menu most be more clearer for customer

Having visited here years ago and being impressed, I have been patiently waiting to return. We visited during restaurant week and the place seemed quite full. We both opted for 3 courses at £25. We arrived at 6 ordering food and drinks not long after. Starters did arrive promptly and were lovely. Mains took a while longer, with people receiving food that was ordered after us. I looked around and the bar man peered back looking at our table. He came over and asked if we were still waiting for our mains. After a few minutes he appeared with them, hot and fresh, now 7.15. overall the food was great and I'd go back, service was good apart from the wait.

What a fantastic place this is. A warm welcome on arrival and we were directed upstairs to the restaurant where a further warm welcome awaited is. It was restaurant week with a good selection of dishes available from the 2 or 3 course menu. The food was delivered not too long after we had placed our order and the quality was exceptional considering the price we were being asked to pay. There is a discretional 10% service charge but really, I never have a problem tipping staff of the food and service are good and on this occasion I was more than happy with the service charge. I would certainly recommend the Earl of Pitt Street to any discerning individual who knows good food when he gets it. I will be going back soon to test the normal menu and I am confident I won't be...
