Avoid if you want a tasty, hot, sunday dinner with nice gravy. After it getting a local write up of really good food and home made Sunday Lunch, I persuaded my husband to go there instead of the pubs and restaurants near where we live. What a major disappointment with awful, lukewarm food. We arrived around 2.30pm, and the place smelled like a nice sunday lunch was cooking, so we ordered roast beef dinners, telling the staff that we'd come because of the good reviews, she just raised her eyebrow. I asked if one plate could have peas instead of medley of veg, but was told they had no peas, and she knew she said, because people ordering fish, chip and peas also couldn't have the peas. What came was, 3 slices of roast beef and a few roast potatoes, a small medley of sliced up broccolli, cauliflower and a few strands of cabbage, covered in a sweet watery juice which I supposed they passed for gravy, and a yorkshire pudding. I still thought it might taste great, but everything was lukewarm, cold even after a few minutes, as the plate was so sparse, it got cold even quicker. The yorkshire puddings were full of the stodgy mixture and they were so heavy. I hoped by ordering extra gravy, it would warm the food up, but I had to re ask for it after a while as it never came, and when it did, it was the same watery liquid that was already on our plate, and they brought it in a tin cup like a workman would use. At £11.95 each, we were beyond disappointed, and still hungry when we left. Could it be that it was the right temperature when dished up, but had been left so long it was less than warm, or does the kitchen put it like that onto plates, without checking it. Very very...
Read moreAmazing atmosphere, staff were easily able to adapt to the various levels of incoming guests while still maintaining a personable and basically perfect level of customer service to their current clients.
I was initially served (at the bar) by two wonderful ladies and then my table was taken over by a wonderful guy who has only been there barely a week; he made me some great cocktails and got my slightly awkward food order perfect!
And then! The food itself was actually PHENOMENAL!! (Hats off to the cef and kitchen staff cos it was pretty busy for a Tuesday night IMO) I got the spiced fried onions and the nourish bowl with fillet steak tails - so frickin tasty! Totally exceeded my expectations. I had had a really heavy lunch and needed something healthy and nourishing aswell as meaty/ tasty/filling and this was just perfect!
For drinks i recommend the Mai Thai that's0 on offer 2 for £13 (theres approx 6 drinks on this offer) I also had a crafter so if your into craft beers/ciders it's definitely à spot to check out
Now I just have to try and not go back every other day I'm here so I can experience the other wonderful, tasty treats Newcastle City has to offer!
Minutes from the station and my hotel so just perfect to roll home to after a long day of work if you're here for work and staying central
5 stars would 200% recommend

Read moreA few beers with work colleagues as I was up in the area, and they know I like a good pub and good beer. This place didn't disappoint! I was saving myself for pizza a bit later, so we didn't eat, and I didn't see anyone else eating, so can't comment on that.
I can, however, comment on the fine selection of ale available. A good range from pale to porter, and even a stout on keg. The staff were brilliant and eager to please.
Seating is comfortably spaced so as to maximise capacity whilst not putting you on the lap of the person at the next table - important if you're wanting to eat!
Nice large windows would provide some lovely sunshine and light during the day, I'm sure, but it's dark outside, so not doing much.
Patrons were friendly and the atmosphere was quite happy, with music pumping out at a level that provides enough to blanket from hearing too much of other conversations, but not so loud you have to shout. Not bad tunes, either, if I recall correctly.
Now normally I'd be concerned about the windows in a place like this from the perspective of zombie apocalypse, but the fact we're on something of a back road here provides a little security by being out of the way. Plus all those tables would probably be useful to bar up the entrances and give you a nice defensible bottleneck through the...
