Thyme Square Cafe — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

Visited this cafe on the 17th December. Upon walking through the door, we were ambushed by a very flustered lady shouting that the touch screen order does not work, and we have to write out our own orders. This was repeated many times like we are idiots. We gave our order and waited. And waited. And waited. 45 minutes later, 2 baskets of stale crisps arrived at the table with apologies about the wait. We were the only customers in the establishment. 4 drinks finally arrived after asking for them to come before the food. 1 hour and 20 minutes to receive the food. Now, if the food was lovely, we would have dismissed the wait, but it was vile, cold, and inedible. Gone off bacon and sausage, cold beans, eggs that tasted like they had been fried in cat urine! And toast like patio slabs. The only thing decent on the plate was the hash browns. We did feel sorry for the lady in charge as it seemed like she was cooking, taking orders, serving and everything else, despite having two workers there with her but they where as helpful as a chocolate teapot. We did laugh about our experience but will definitely not go back or recommend unless we want to stitch people up. A quick bite to eat before travelling home turned into nearly 2...

Spontaneous visit. Genuinely glad we came. The owner/server was unbelievably kind & really welcoming. Considering they where on their own they had full English & vegetarian full English made to perfection & quickly. We didn't mind waiting though as it was quiet, the atmosphere with classical music in the background was something different but much enjoyed! We ended up giving the owner/server a large tip as they couldn't have been any more accomodating. I highly recommend this place - if you want a relaxed breakfast please take a trip to this wonderful cafe you honestly won't regret it. Will be going back...

What a lovely little cafe. The food was delicious and staff so friendly. I went on my own and felt very welcome. The owner Paul was a delight to meet and what a great chef he was too. Nothing was a problem every thing cooked to order and just how you would like it. Fresh crispy salad with chicken I had, with a mug of coffee all at a very reasonable price.
