The Lanherne Pub in Newquay is located a bit off the beaten track - several hundred meters from the town's busy beaches. As such, it is mainly frequented by folk from the area, not tourists. It offers a good range of beers (for once, not all St. Austell's!), including several hand-pumped ales from Tintagel Brewery. It is a HUGE place with two different outside seating areas - a bigger one on the front and a very small on on the back (see photos). There's a pool table near the bar area. During my visit only a handful of people were there, but it was still early in the evening on a weekday. Bar staff were very friendly, and the place has a pleasant feel to it, although I can imagine it gets quite loud during busier times.
Beer prices are rather civil and lower than average for Newquay.
Great pubs in Newquay are few and far between, since most of them cater to visitors from England and abroad and are very touristy. This one is the opposite: A really good...
Read moreCame here for Sunday Lunch before going to the zoo with my son. Well what can I say, from the moment we entered until the moment we left the staff and owner were amazing and very attentive, even to the point that the chef suggest a toothache remedy for my dad. Bought the toothache red cross by they way, very good recommendation. The carvery was lovely, I had the beef and it melted in my mouth and with no less than 8 different veg selections. The only thing I was not too keen on was the roast potatoes, they just tasted like they were made the day before but the dauphine potatoes more than made up for that, the cauliflower cheese was amazing as was all of the veg and a massive homemade Yorkshire pudding to top it off; lovely and crispy. My son had the gammon with chips and peas as he is a bit picky and he finished the lot, he even said that it was the best gammon he had ever tasted!!! Will DEFINITELY be visiting again xx thank you...
Read moreVisited yesterday for a carvery as staying locally for the weekend. Other reviews had said The Lanherne offered a great carvery and they weren’t wrong! The staff were so friendly and helpful, great sense of humour and banter which is often rare these days, perfect table for us to sit with our two four legged friends. Attentive service and then the food! Roast potatoes beautifully cooked - crispy and fluffy they were just like my gran used to make!! Excellent selection of veg which was freshly cooked and hadn’t been sat for ages under the heat lamps, the meat was delicious with generous portions given, and even jugs to take the gravy to the table!!!! They even offered some meat cut offs to the dogs! Would absolutely recommend and will definitely return on our next visit. Thank you to...
