Family of 5 went for Sunday lunch late July. Intimate restaurant, with impressive menu. All locally sourced and showcasing locally crafted beers and ciders.
For starters 3 had the soup of the day - carrot and coriander with wheaten bread, 1 the seafood chowder and one the goats cheese. Fabulous all round, highlights were definitely the wheaten bread which was fantastic and the chowder which was perfectly cooked.
For the main course 2 had the salmon with sea vegetable, 1 the rigatoni, 1 the lamb belly and 1 the beef with Yorkshire pudding All came with an assortment of fresh vegetables, champ, roast potatoes.
Again every plate was exceptional, the salmon beautifully cooked, the picked vegetable set it off perfectly and The only criticism is that I’d have like more of the pickled vegetable because they were so good.. The lamb was buttery soft and the beef so flavoursome that the self proclaimed part time vegetarian 😂 wavered and tried some. The vegetarian dish which so often is poorly conceived packed a punch of parmigiana and pesto
Empty plates all round we struggled onto dessert .. 2 had the rhubarb panna cotta, 1 the apple crumble and 1 the brownie The panda cotta and sorbet was light, refreshing and a perfect end to the meal without being overly sweet The brownie and crumble I can’t comment on as I never got the chance to taste them .. as they disappeared so quickly
Also to add insult to injury the restaurant served an interesting menu of cocktails- and had a well rounded wine list
Highly recommend the rose petal gin cocktail which was lovely
Fantastic food, good ambiance, relaxed and friendly staff - really enjoyable and will be...
Read moreHave been before and it was amazing, gave five stars without hesitation and recommended to all my friends. Sadly I went this evening and it was very poor. Paid £188 for 4 mains 4 sides and a bottle of wine, so I expect the food and service to be good. The restaurant was extremely noisy, so much that we could barely talk to each other. Having booked a table at 8.30, we didn't receive any food until after 9.30. This was extremely slow service. This caused us not to order deserts as it was 10 o'clock and too late to sit another hour for another course! We ordered 1 ribeye. 1 fillet steak. 1 cod. 1 vegetarian cauliflower steak. Two out of four meals were exceptional (cod and ribeye). One of the steaks, the fillet steak, was very over cooked, - having waited an hour we weren't going to complain and send it back! However at £40 this is really not acceptable. And the cauliflower steak with noodles was poorly executed - overcooked noodles that just was really stodgy. Cauliflower tasteless and greasy, a little burnt flavoured only. Broccoli not cooked. Mushrooms really slimy. Really disappointed. Sorry to say I won't be back. One star based on this evening, an extra for the memory of...
Read moreBy far this is the best restaurant in Newcastle for modern fine dining but in a relaxed atmosphere.
I selected the 3 course meal from the special Sunday menu for 25 pounds.
I started with the soup of the day, potato leak soup. It was surprisingly green and excellent. Of note it was very (temperature) hot which is appropriate. The soup was well seasoned the way I like it, but I have a love of salt.
Next came the ham hock rillettes which were very porky and good, served with an excellent bacon jam. Vegetable sides were good and cooked properly. The mashed potato was especially good with obviously a lot of proper butter.
Lastly the dessert which surprised me. It was extremely good and although I was very full it went down too easy.
I arrived at noon when they opened and was the first diner of the day. By 13:30 the place was half full. The portions look smaller but are very filling and honestly I would be very happy spilling every course with another as it was a little...
