Esplanade Fish Bar — Restaurant in North Devon

We have visited this place many times over the years and have found it always to be a great place for food, large tasty portions. This recent visit proved to be a massive disappointment!!! I ordered a large fish and cheesey chips with a curry sauce, that cost just under £14.50. The fish was quite small for £7.50, the chips had no cheese on them a was a very small portion for £5.00 I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to the cheesey chips!!! (I couldn't go back to complain because we had driven off somewhere to eat them and the queue was quite long). I will not be purchasing food from there again!! In the past you could have fed 2 people on the fish and chips because of the large portions. We visit Burnham on Sea quite a bit and there are 2 fish shops which offer huge portions of lovely chips for less money. Very friendly customer service. Someone placed 28 orders before us and I must say, we got ours pretty sharpish.

We came here in the same hour after getting white baits from The Harbour Shed. Which was atrocious by the way in portion size and customer service.

It was so bad there we thought we would get white baits here coz it was about 3 mouthfuls only. Esplanade on the other hand d exceeded our expectations.

Good portion size and 25p cheaper than The Harbour Shed. The portion is 5-6 times more as well. See pics for comparison. I would say that the portion size for Esplanade is normal but the Harbour Shed….? I don’t know what the heck they were playing at. Boxes are the same size by the way.

When in Lynton and you fancy white baits for snacks, go to Esplanade! Definitely don’t go to Harbour Shed.

Called in here for fish n chips as we were reliably informed these were the best in the area. We certainly weren’t disappointed! There was a large queue outside which is always a good sign you’re in the right place!

We wanted to eat inside so put one person in the queue, the rest of us went to secure some tables in the rear where the seating area is.

The menu is standard fish n chip bar menu with some decent seating indoors if you don’t want to take away.

I had the chips which were amazing, not too greasy and very tasty! A fish cake which was also top quality and a jumbo sausage which again was very good.

Based on this experience I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, despite being really busy service was fast and the place was...
