Found this by accident and wasn't disappointed. The Lady and Gentleman who greeted us at the front door were very cheerful and very chirpy. A very relaxed venue and from what I could see the Cakes and Breads were home made. Extremely tasty and very good quality. Service was brilliant and my wife's Egg mayonnaise butties were thick as a door and oozed mega filling which was delicious. My cheese and ham toasty was sublime. All the drinks ( tea and coffee) were hot and tasty served in delicate tea cups. Couldn't fault the service and nice chats with the owners.

Today I had lunch at The Cream Tea Cafe. I haven’t been there for several years as I no longer live in the U.K. I had a delicious sourdough toastie with mature cheddar and chutney and a side salad. The bread, scones and cakes are all freshly baked on the premises. For dessert I couldn’t resist trying a slice of the almond, raspberry and rhubarb tart, served with clotted cream. Also enjoyed a large Americano. Support small businesses, this small friendly cafe is well worth a visit.

I learned about "cream tea" during my visit to England, and this is the first ever place I've tried it. I'm glad to be wirting the review now, after I've come home, and having tried many, many other places for cream tea. Unfortunatly, the scones are a sorry representation by which to stake the name of their establishment upon. While they weren't the worst scones I've had, there are just a lot better places to get cream tea.

I recently visited the Cream Tea Café in Barnstaple, and it has quickly become my new favourite spot for lunch. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home.

The coffee here is exceptional—rich, smooth, and perfectly brewed. It’s clear they take pride in their beans, as every cup I had was a real treat. Paired with their delicious home baking, it’s a match made in heaven. The pastries and cakes are freshly made and utterly indulgent, showcasing a wonderful balance of flavors and textures.

But the real star of the show for me was the egg mayo sandwich. Decadent is the word that comes to mind. The egg mayo was creamy and flavourful, generously layered between two slices of tasty, fresh, sourdough bread. It’s simple, yet elevated to perfection.

Overall, the Cream Tea Café is a gem in Barnstaple. Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee or sitting down for a full lunch, this café delivers on all fronts. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu. Highly...

A Hidden Gem in Barnstaple – Cream Tea Café Delight!

Tucked away in the heart of Barnstaple, the Cream Tea Café is an absolute treat. From the moment we walked in, the cosy and welcoming atmosphere made us feel right at home. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, offering helpful recommendations and always serving with a smile.

Now, let’s talk about the food. The scones were incredible. Freshly baked, light, and perfectly warm, served with generous portions of clotted cream and rich strawberry jam. It was everything a Devon cream tea should be. The tea selection was also impressive, beautifully brewed and served in charming teapots, adding to the classic experience.

There’s a lovely balance of tradition and comfort here. Whether you're popping in for a peaceful solo cuppa or meeting friends for a relaxed catch-up, the Cream Tea Café hits the mark.

Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Barnstaple. You won’t be...

This is my favourite cafe anywhere. I don't really want to leave a review because I don't want anyone else to discover it, but on the other hand I would like to make sure they stay in business so I will take the risk...

The best things about it are the service (welcoming and cheerful, efficient but not pushy) - the food (changing range of interesting home made cakes and specials, and then a reliable basic menu) - and the atmosphere - quiet, unfussy, cosy and comfortable, and above all very clean. I like the fact you can see the food being prepared too. It gets busy at lunches etc but they organise it well and it is worth waiting for a seat if you have to.

Gosh I really fancy an apple flajack and hot chocolate now. I look forward to being able to visit...
