Today I decided to go into this spoons for a pint with a couple of my friends. When ordering my pint I was asked for ID what I happily gave over however, even though I am close to 20 I was accused of owning a fake id as a bit of the text was rubbed off. Bear in mind this ID is four years old!!!! I put up a bit of an argument and tried to explain and prove it was real however they still declined me. I even offered to show my other forms of ID but they refuse and threatened to kick me and my mates out of said spoons. I went to Watergate and explained the situation and asked them if my other forms of ID was acceptable and valid and they agreed that they were. This entire experience was incredibly humiliating as the member of staff (think it was the new manager) was very rude and very loud about the situation. This is very disappointing as this was my favourite spoons in Barnstaple but due to service I don’t think I will be going back there. Even after calling this spoons MULTIPLE of times he refuse to return my ID and was incredibly rude on the phone. Heads up, my ID has NEVER been declined in this spoons or any other spoons before. I understand this member of staff was doing their job however ignoring my request to show another form of id, being rude to me in person and across the phone and threatening to ban me from Panniers was just plainly unprofessional. I also told him to feel the top of the ID for the bumps which proves it’s a real id but he declined and ignored me, I also asked him if they had a UV light to check but I was...
Read moreSOME really friendly and helpful staff. New manager is brusk and totally lacks any customer service skills (With the exception of a chosen few people he knows!). Was recently served a pint that was basically line cleaner and when approached he told me to go and queue to get another drink at a very busy bar to sort it out with no appology or action by himself! Also has brought back to life and enforced with staff (As stated to me by staff) Whetherspoons misguided "5% head" (And more!) rule meaning a majority of pints need a polite request to be topped up, which is by most staff responded to with attitude and a terse "It's 5%" and a begrudding top up. I shouldn't need to argue my rights to get a full pint! On the plus side the manager is keeping the top of the coffee machines sparkling! Another benifit he brings is to busy himself serving food whilst avoiding the hard work and having to face frustrated customers behind the bar as the queues build and the staff struggle. Oh, and don't get me started on the single file queue for the bar now...sometimes it...
Read moreDreadful drink and meal last night at The Panniers. Usually decent service and acceptable food, but on this occasion not. Pint of San Miguel flat and odd looking. Ordered 3 meals and waited over 45 minutes for them to arrive. When they did, only two meals appeared. When two of us were halfway through our meals, we had to chase the third meal which was then delivered to our table with no apology. It was dry and curled up and had obviously been left lying around in the kitchen. We stayed for another drink and when we left about an hour later none of our plates had been cleared ... or any of the tables in that area. There were even plates and dishes on the floor where someone had cleared a table in order to be seated. These had been stacked and then slid off onto the floor. It was way below the normal standard. Very disappointing. We don't expect great things from Wetherspoons, but this simply wasn't...
