I popped in for a pint having spent the day at the Classic Car Show. I asked if I could pay with a ÂŁ20 note, knowing that some pubs donât take cash anymore. What I got in reply from presumably the Landlord/manager, was sarcastic comments about how âweâve never seen a ÂŁ20 note in the West Country beforeâ (Iâm from Ilfracombe, half an hours drive away.) Warm welcome from the chap behind the bar and courtyard was full of locals celebrating a birthday, which was fun. Didn't have anything to eat. BUT I stupidly left my wallet behind and didn't notice til the next day. As a Londoner, I assumed it was gone but thought it worth a call to check. I was delighted to hear that it was safely behind the bar: collected it that evening with absolutely everything intact. Cannot tell you how grateful I was, and how chuffed that people had been so...
