If you're looking for a good selection of beers to take away, this is NOT the place. This is in no way a shop. There were 2 or 3 cans, and a couple of bottles in amongst a bunch of glassware and mixers, to the point where I want entirely sure if any of it was for sale, or just storage for the bar.
The bar had a large selection of fairly standard beers, including European lagers and British craft ales. They had a sour and a stout, but disappointed to see that the only low alcohol beer was something you can find at Tesco's.
The staff were pleasant enough, and spent the time I was in there gossiping about the presumably drunken night before, and what the regulars had got up to. It sounded like the place has great soul in the evening, but if you just want to have a half and buy some interesting cans, this isn't the...
Read moreThis place has gone downhill and it happened fast. Not sure if this is the owner drinking with his buddies a bit too much or what but they’ve lost three long standing staff members that were probably the only ones that knew anything about the craft scene. Beer selection is awful - counted up to 7 lagers simultaneously. Tap selection tends to be ok to bad and their fridge with cans is regularly empty. Over the past two months I got there and ended up leaving twice because table service just never made it to our table. The only real good thing is music on Thursdays but at this point I’d rather do the unthinkable and drink at Wetherspoons across the street or go to the real local craft beer...
Read moreTown centre drinking hole attracting a friendly crowd. This place has changed a lot in recent years and mostly for the better. Now much more popular with seating outside but still small inside. A good selection of draught beers is always available. There's almost always at least one Belgian, IPA, bitter, stout and several crowd pleasing pale ales. Often a craft lager is thrown in too. You can sometimes find some truly outrageous beers on tap e.g. treacle stouts and the like clocking in with alc% in double figures. There's also some drinkable gin, a couple of single malts and matusalem rum. Drinkers of all ages frequent and I've never seen anyone too drunk or any...
